When I press the inventory button I only go to the map.
I can't figure out how to return to spend upgrade points; it only worked once (the tutorial level-up) and stopped working when I retrieved my first map piece. Now pressing the inventory button (remapped keyboard buttons) takes me to the map and there is no apparent way to switch between pages or modes like in similar games.

Discovered the issue; semicolon is hard-bound to 'map'. I moved the inventory button to a different key and it works. Keys should not be hard-bound, or you should at least 'reserve' the key when it is hard bound so that it can't be assigned to a different purpose.

Not everyone uses QWERTY, and assuming that causes issues.
