help. not hitting as far as others

I noticed that my friend, or everyone else when playing golf online, is hitting their drives farther than me. I am hitting boost, tried moving the stick up or down to get it higher or lower, but nothing helps. My friend says that it look like I'm not going as fast as he is. could it be a controller problem?

I haven't played for a long time so I dunno if it was patched out, but the trick is to set boost or drift to another button so you can press them together while hitting the ball, thus adding both multipliers simultaneously.
