‘Stabi’ No More? In a Days of Our Lives Exclusive, Cherie Jimenez Lays Out Some Powerful Truths About Stefan and Gabi

We’ve got to give credit where credit is due, and after all these months of Jude’s paternity being kept a secret on Days of Our Lives  Gabi wasted no time in telling Nicole who her baby daddy really is. Now everyone knows that Eric is Jude’s father, and Nicole and EJ are as good as done. The reveal was dramatic, it was public, it was messy, and it was wonderfully Gabi.

In the process, though, Gabi threw her own husband under the bus, forcing him to betray his promise to EJ and putting a target on his back. There are so many ways Gabi could have gone about revealing the truth, but did she really have to rat out her husband in the process? It got us (and more than a few fans) wondering what happened to Gabi to make her choose this route. Some theorized that maybe she found out about Stefan’s affair with Ava and wanted to hurt him.

But as she and her husband had it out after the press conference, it turns out that her time in prison after being falsely convicted of Li’s murder did far more damage to Gabi than she may have first let on. She was in solitary confinement for months at a time, attacked by Clyde’s goons, and never knew if she’d see her daughter again or if EJ would let her rot in jail forever… Gabi came out wounded and wanting revenge. And while she claimed that her jail time made her determined to reunite a father with his son, a furious Stefan, who is not ready to forgive his wife, got her to admit that she also (maybe even mainly) did it to hurt EJ.

Sot the big question is: After all these months of waiting for “Stabi” to reunite, are we about to see them crumble?

Whatever her motivation for forcing Stefan into an unwinnable position and tossing EJ to the wolves in the most dramatic fashion, Cherie Jimenez tells Soaps.com that Gabi’s focus after prison is on two things. First is family — as we saw as she ran straight to Arizona to visit Arianna — and second is “reuniting with the love of her life. That’s been one of the beautiful things about coming into this character, is how strong the love that Gabi and Stefan have is.”

We’ll see how the fallout goes, but don’t expect Gabi throwing her husband under the bus, or even his affair with Ava coming to light to derail these two, even if they hit a few bumps. Because there is a whole lot of love between the two, Jimenez explains.

“Brandon [Barash] is such a wonderful actor and really makes me a better actor,” she says. “Every scene that we have had together has just been so great and you feel the love.

“We just work really well together,” she continues. “I’m looking forward to how that’s gonna translate on screen. I’m so excited to see the relationship. Every time that we had our scenes and especially within those first couple of episodes, it’s so nice. It’s so beautiful. You can really see and feel — at least I hope, because that’s what I felt from my end — the love that they have for each other.”

So OK, whatever Gabi’s motivation for exposing EJ (and to a lesser extent, Stefan) in the way she did, there’s no shortage of love. And, we’d venture, Gabi and Stefan don’t have any delusions about who they’re married to. They’ve both made a slew of mistakes and done a ton of pretty horrible things over the years. Surely, they can forgive each other for all that they’ve done. And if not? Staying together is just the smart thing to do.

EJ’s out for revenge and both Gabi and Stefan are in his line of fire. Splitting apart now could be disastrous, because EJ’s got nothing left to lose. They’re going to need a united front to survive his coming rampage. If Stefan is ticked at Gabi, he’s going to have to work through it fast — because we’ve got a feeling that if Gabi doesn’t know about Ava yet, EJ’s revenge against them could change that fast. And “Stabi” will have to lean into their love if they’re going to survive!
