Mid-South Spotlight: Prospects that emerged during camp season

It's no exaggeration to say that prospects across the country have had the course of their lives changed thanks to a strong showing during camp season. Let’s take a look at five such prospects in the Mid-South that saw their stock rise dramatically in June.

First time I saw Zeigler on May, he held just one offer from Grambling, but after making the camp rounds, he now holds 11 offers from the likes of Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and SMU. A big frame at 6-foot-3 and 197 pounds with a big arm, Zeigler's ability jumps at you. Being born and raised in Louisiana, LSU will the most interesting school in play. He has camped in Baton Rouge, and while there has been no offer, they are monitoring.

There are three elite quarterbacks in the 2027 class in the Boot, and I would expect they eventually only take one of them should they want to be at LSU. With that, there is a fair chance Zeigler will leave the state for college ball.

A big offensive lineman out of Midlothian, Texas, Best exploded onto the scene this spring and summer with some big-time offers. Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Missouri were among his many opportunities to play at the next level. Oklahoma is the biggest school to watch for the long haul as Best grew up in Oklahoma as a Sooner fan before moving to Texas.

Best can fit at both tackle and guard right now. If he does not get any taller, his best position is likely on the interior.

The next man up at Denton Guyer, Kreye is not yet starting for the Wildcats, but is adding offers to his resume. A big frame at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Kreye already looks the part. Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Houston are among his early offers.

We will have to wait one more season to see him in full action as he currently sits behind 2025 Oklahoma four-star commit Kevin Sperry.

While you may not see Bonik's offers posted to social media quite yet, he has been reeling them in. A good size for his age at 6-foot and 182 pounds, Bonik does not yet know what position he will fit in, but running back and linebacker are both on the table.

While on the camp circuit, Bonik raked in offers from Florida State, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Boston College, Arizona State, and Washington State.

Oklahoma State is the early school to watch as his father, Devin Bonik, played in Stillwater under Jimmy Johnson.

The second Denton Guyer prospect of the list, Haywood has seen his recruitment explode this spring and summer. The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder holds offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Oregon and Ole Miss, among several others. Haywood is not yet ranked being a 2027 prospect, but he certainly projects as one of the top early defensive linemen in the class.

Closing in on 15 offers, Haywood will likely shake out to be a guy with 30-plus offers in his recruitment.
