The plot to kill LIncoln began and ended with Boothe et. al. and no credible historian has even been able to link Secretary of State Edwin Stanton to the President's assassination. Stanton had come to admire Lincoln after having started out as having contempt for the rail-splitter. Stanton may have been the first American to truly grasp Lincoln's greatness. While any, if not most, persons would agree that Ms.Surratt wasguilty of exercising ppoor judgement as to whom she agreed to provide accomodations to (Maryland, my home state) no serious person actually feels this woman of Deep and profound Catholi faith, whom as The Secretary of War, in his FRENXZIED, "rush to judgement in the immediate aftermath of the president's murder, essentially had this devout, pious, and innately kind Catholic woman carried off from her Boarding house at the ungodly hour of 03:ooam, and as she was about to be lead away to the BRUTAL confinement the Secretary had prearranged for all the "conspitors" she droped to her kness and pleaded with God the father, Jesus Christ, the holy Spirit, and for we Catholics pleaded for Mary's intercession. When your dealing with the Institution of the United States presidency, it will take a formidable, intellectually, Spiritually, and politically honest Man to finally grant to Mary Suratt the COMPLETE and ABSOLUTE, that. as I indicated earlier was the First breach within the office of the president of the United States. Poorly written. Grammatical errors are distracting. O' Reilley went too far in taking literary license in no only characters' thoughts but in locations and events. This is more fiction than history and reflects shoddy research. The authors probably rushed publication to beat the movie. 'April 1865' by Jay Winik is a much better book.
