OLED panel smartphone penetration is rapidly increasing in 2024, causing a significant increase in the OLED forecast. At the same time, LCD TV demand is falling behind expectations in 2H24, causing lower utilization and price declines. 

Using Omdia’s latest demand data, V2 of the OLED and LCD Supply Demand & Equipment Tracker – 1Q24 Database revised the large-area demand down by 7.14% and 4.68% in 3Q24 and 4Q24, respectively. The supply/demand model results now properly reflect the current state of the market. 

The Display Fab Equipment Design Wins Database tracks manufacturing machine types and units by factory and equipment vendor. Content is updated and expanded quarterly. 9,681 units were added in the 1Q24 report. The total is now 198,287 units.

Revisions in the updated report were mainly positive even though there were surprises, such as Apple terminating its Micro LED program and the plans to close legacy factories. We can expect 2024 to return significantly better results than 2023.
