Navigating the EU CSRD for the first time can be an overwhelming, if not hopeless task. To visualize the reporting process for you, we've created a flowchart of the CSRD reporting process. Here's how you should go about the CSRD process: 1️⃣ Context setting: Analyze your business model and strategy in relation to impacts, risks, and opportunities (IROs). Do this through a media analysis and confirm your IRO longlist by engaging stakeholders. 2️⃣ Assessing Materiality: Perform a double materiality assessment to identify: 🔵 Material impacts (both negative and positive, actual and potential) 🔵 Material risks and opportunities (current and anticipated financial effects) 3️⃣ Reporting: Once you've determined which sustainability matters are material, you need to: 🔵 Report on the process 🔵 Report on the outcome 4️⃣ Disclosure: Finally, with your material topics identified, disclose on all corresponding ESRS data points. Last week marked the book launch of "How to be a Chief Sustainability Officer", a all-in-one toolkit for sustainability professionals. We had the chance to read the book pre-launch and interview co-author Anna Krotova about it. The resulting interview is filled with important insights and can be found via the link in the comments! A preview of some of the key highlights: 🔵 CSRD requires priorities: Companies that struggle with the upcoming CSRD aren't prioritizing properly, argues Anna, who also says that allocating resources is a matter of will, not availability. 🔵 Strategies for aligning goals: CSOs need to get everyone on board, which requires both soft and hard skills. A good start is to frame sustainability as an opportunity, by reducing resource use and improving long-term efficiency. 🔵 Double materiality assessments: The book provides practical guidance for conducting DMAs.
