Day 1 at the Cloneshouse MEL Bootcamp… My journey at the MEL Bootcamp organized by Cloneshouse began with a lively session led by Rachael Okoronkwo . She masterfully simplified the basic concepts of monitoring and evaluation, and through her engaging facilitation style, we easily grasped the differences between the two. From there, we moved on to understanding and designing the Theory of Change (ToC) with Oludotun Babayemi . He broke down ToC into its finest elements, guiding us through the creation of a pseudo project that solidified our grasp on the process. It was eye-opening to see how every small detail connects to form a comprehensive strategy. The next session, led by Abdullahi, focused on designing indicators. One key takeaway was his statement that “Indicators are measures of concepts but are not the concepts themselves.” He emphasized the importance of making indicators Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebound (SMART), while also considering Quality, Quantity, and Time (Q.T.T). This insight changed how I perceive and plan for project evaluations. Steven Adeboye session on conducting and managing baseline assessments was equally enlightening. He shared his expertise on the various contexts—organizational, environmental, stakeholder, political, and social—that should be considered during a baseline assessment. His thorough approach provided a clear roadmap for understanding the initial conditions of any project. In the afternoon, khadija yahaya took us through the process of designing survey beneficiary questions. Using the pseudo project we had created earlier, we developed meaningful questions that would yield valuable insights from beneficiaries. This hands-on exercise made the theoretical concepts much more tangible. The day concluded with a dynamic session on designing focus group discussions (FGDs), facilitated by Joshua Arogunyo. He broke down all the components of FGDs, detailing the do’s and don’ts and the essential processes involved. His practical tips and engaging style left me feeling confident about conducting FGDs in the future. Overall, Day 1 of the MEL Bootcamp was an incredibly enriching experience. Each session built on the previous one, providing a comprehensive and practical understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL). I left feeling inspired and significantly more knowledgeable in the field of MEL. Day 2 ongoing….. #MELBootcamp #MonitoringAndEvaluation #TheoryOfChange #SMARTIndicators #BaselineAssessment #FocusGroupDiscussions #ProfessionalDevelopment #Clonehouse

In this session, Oludotun Babayemi takes the participants into the heart of the Theory of Change (ToC)! As discussions unfold, a seemingly simple question takes center stage: "What distinguishes a toolkit from tools?" This inquiry may appear straightforward, but it can unlock a world of clarity and purpose in monitoring and evaluation! Learning in progress! #OngoingMELTraining #MELBootcamp #TheoryOfChange #ProfessionalDevelopment #EvaluationForImapct #CareerGrowth

Kickstarting our #AbujaMELBootcamp with Rachael Okoronkwo facilitating one of the morning sessions, the basic course - introducing participants to monitoring and evaluation. In her words; "So some think - “M&E is inspecting construction sites” “or seems like auditing”, I believe that M&E goes beyond that, it's about driving impact and informed decision-making." #MonitoringandEvaluation #OngoingLearning #CareerDevelopment #CapacityBuilding #MEL
