The reality of not swimming in the Seine during the Olympics has finally been acknowledged. Organizers revealed that marathon swimming could move to Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, which will be hosting canoeing and rowing events.

PARIS, July 5 (Reuters) - The River Seine will be a central element of the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the opening ceremony taking place on the river with a boat parade and two events, the marathon swimming and the swimming leg of the triathlon scheduled to be held there.

The summer Games are set to kick off on July 26 with the opening ceremony which will see more than 10,000 athletes cruising on boats through the River Seine. Marathon swimming events from August 8 to 9 and the triathlon on July 30, July 31 and August 5 are also scheduled to take place in the Seine.

In recent months, authorities have tried various measures to clean up the Seine, including constructing a storage basin that prevents water from entering the river and degrading its quality.
