Kaya loved her two sons Ashitaba and Komichi dearly, praying to their village's deity "Lord Mashima" in their favour. She was very devoted to said deity in general, assuming that when her sons returned safely, it was thanks to Lord Mashima.

Appearance[]

Kaya was a woman with fair skin, long brown hair, and large black eyes. She wore a plain light-grey shirt, grey pants under a brown skirt and black sandals.

After hearing Team Jiraiya's warnings, Kaya and the other villagers decided to go to safety. However, since her younger son Komichi lost his teddy bear, he and Ashitaba went back to the village, with Kaya being unable to stop them. Instead, she went to a shrine dedicated to the deity "Lord Mashima", praying for their safety. While doing so, she was approached by Team Asuma, who, after hearing her circumstances, joined Team Jiraiya in the underground to rescue Kaya's sons. They safely returned them, leading Kaya to initially believe the rescue was thanks to Lord Mashima's mercy.

After returning to their village again, a giant explosion occurred during the night, killing Kaya and her family.

Trivia[]

  • "Kaya" can mean "mosquito net" (蚊帳), "grass used for thatching" () and is also the name of the "Japanese nutmeg tree" (). It is an archaic expression to indicate emotion or admiration, possibly referring to her strong belief in her village's deity.
