Torch Two arrived recently on the East Coast, shining its light on the opening of our newest petrol station in the vibrant township of KotaSAS, Kuantan! The celebration featured a motorcycle convoy bringing the torch into the city, marking the start of its journey in the region. The KotaSAS petrol station — our 76th in Pahang — opened its doors to the local community and travellers alike, with fun family activities that brought joy and smiles. Torch Two is now travelling across Terengganu, making stops in Marang, Kertih and Batu Rakit, continuing its symbolic journey of achievement and commitment to the future of the industry and our nation. For decades, PETRONAS has journeyed alongside the incredible people of Terengganu. The dedication and spirit of its people have been instrumental in propelling Malaysia's oil and gas industry forward. Together, we have witnessed remarkable achievements, from infrastructure development to community empowerment. The PETRONAS Homecoming Torch 2 has conquered the Southern region and made its triumphant arrival in Mersing, where we celebrated the success of 169 graduates from the Yayasan PETRONAS (YP) MEKAR programme! MEKAR (Memampankan Ekonomi Asas Rakyat) is a life-changing initiative aimed at uplifting underprivileged communities by providing them with skills, guidance and the spirit of entrepreneurship. Through a partnership between YP, the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), we brought MEKAR to Mersing in 2022, and the results have been extraordinary! With over 2,000 participants benefitting from YP and ECER’s collaboration since 2020, it's clear that together, we can create a brighter and more prosperous future for all! Human Resource leaders from various organisations gathered recently at the PETRONAS Leadership Centre on 27 June for the inaugural Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) Neurodiversity Roundtable. A joint effort between PETRONAS and EY, the roundtable is a demonstration of commitment towards an inclusive and progressive Malaysia. Niagable, a startup under the SEEd.Lab initiative, aims to help small businesses digitalise affordably while providing actionable financial insights on their operations via its product, Semart. As a proud member of SEEd.Lab's second cohort, Niagable aims to empower more PICO, NANO and micro-SMEs with financial services in Malaysia. Niagable equips street vendors with financial knowledge and tools such as point-of-sale devices and the Semart Dashboard so they can make well-informed and timely decisions through data and insights. SEEd.Lab is a social enterprise innovation hub powered by PETRONAS and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Its mission is to tackle societal challenges in Malaysia by nurturing social enterprises that leverage technology and innovation to develop community-centric solutions. The Sarawak Government and PETRONAS recently celebrated the contributions of Sarawak vendors and service providers to the oil and gas industry's growth. 47 Sarawak vendors received commemoration plaques from PETRONAS Vice President of Group Procurement, Rashidah Alias. The ceremony was also attended by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg and PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong. To date, PETRONAS has recognised and commemorated 72 Sarawak vendors. The spark of inspiration keeps shining even when it rains. Torch Two of the ongoing “Journey of the Twin Torches” nationwide tour commemorating our 50th Anniversary travelled from Pengerang to Pasir Gudang, Johor recently to witness the launch of the Sungai Buluh River Rehabilitation Programme, a long-term environmental initiative by Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB). This three-year programme aims to improve the river’s health through ecological rehabilitation and environmental education among local communities, in hopes of ensuring sustainable development and enhancing quality of life. It is a joint effort with Majlis Bandaraya Pasir Gudang (MBPG) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), together with local communities within the Sungai Buluh vicinity. Over 300 participants attended the launch, including local authorities, communities, volunteers, and students from SMK Pasir Gudang 2, where they had the opportunity to learn more about river rehabilitation during a visit to MHB and UTM’s booth which showcased topics including Green Waste Vinegar, Microcomposite, I-naturalist, Geo-Trees, and Urban Farming.
