Today’s Country

Arriving hot on the heels of last year’s self-titled fourth album, Zach Bryan’s The Great American Bar Scene is easily one of the year’s most anticipated records. The white-hot country star first announced the project in April, and the 19-track, star-studded album does not disappoint. Guests include the likes of Bruce Springsteen and John Mayer, two legendary champions of Bryan’s raw, evocative songwriting and emotional vocal performances. A standout on The Great American Bar Scene is “28,” a fiddle-driven ballad on which Bryan delivers one of his gentlest, most understated vocals yet, with especially cutting lyrics like “Took 28 years of blood I was lost in to feel loved on my own birthday.” This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Check back here early and often, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
