Antidote

It didn’t take long for Good Neighbours’ Oli Fox to feel enamoured with “Daisies”, the fast-rising duo’s third single and the song that headlines Antidote this week. “I remember [bandmate] Scott [Verrill] had the day alone in the studio whilst I was at work and he sent this voice memo of the melody,” Fox tells Apple Music. “I just fell in love with it.” That melody—typically buoyant for a band which has always been intent on lacing its music with positivity—accompanies lyrics about overcoming low self-esteem thanks to someone who makes you feel great about yourself (“All the parts of me that I hated/Oh, you’ve got them pushin’ up daisies”). “We like doing that, taking a bit of a taboo topic and putting very outlandish production around it,” adds Verrill. “I hope it makes people want to shout about their problems a bit more and really practise that self-love.” It’s been a big year for Fox and Verrill following the release of their viral breakout hit, “Home”, in January. How are they taking it all in? “I don’t know if we are!” says Fox. “I think it’s all moving at such a pace now that we’re playing as many shows as we can. It’s an amazing experience and I think one big winter comedown may just help it all sink in. It’s been so crazy!” Elsewhere this week, listen to the latest essential tracks from artists including Blossoms, Orla Gartland and Dolores Forever. Like all the artists featured, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
