Part of ETG Climate Solutions’ core objectives is addressing challenges that communities across Africa face daily. One of these challenges is indoor air pollution and associated health risks caused by harmful emissions from traditional cooking methods. Improved #cookstoves are innovative cooking devices engineered to mitigate the adverse environmental and health impacts associated with traditional cooking methods, especially in rural Africa. Conventional approaches often rely on burning biomass fuels, such as wood and charcoal, which produce significant amounts of smoke and pollutants. Improved cookstoves address these issues through enhanced efficiency and #reducedemissions. By burning fuel more efficiently, these stoves produce fewer harmful byproducts, improving indoor air quality and reducing health risks, particularly respiratory illnesses prevalent among women and children. The efficient fuel use of improved cookstoves contributes to decreased deforestation and forest degradation, promoting better land management and biodiversity conservation. In June 2024, ETG Climate Solutions commenced it’s cookstove project in Zambia. Under this project, we anticipate distributing 15 000 cookstoves to families in the Lukulu, Mitete and Mongu districts. Training will be conducted by our field staff to optimize the stove lifespan and reliability, and most importantly, safety and efficiency. ETG Climate Solutions, a dynamic unit within ETG Commodities Vertical, is dedicated to enhancing the #livelihoods of #farmers across #Africa. With a team of 70 professionals in #Switzerland, #Spain, #Zambia, #Malawi, #South Africa, and #Kenya, we leverage our extensive experience in farmer-related initiatives to deliver substantial #climate and livelihood benefits. At the heart of our mission is the African Emerging Farmer Carbon Abatement Program (AEF CAP). This program, already active in Zambia, Malawi, and Kenya, supports #emergingfarmers with modern tools and access to #carbonmarkets. By focusing on #agroforestry, #cookstove initiatives, #afforestation, and other nature-based solutions, we're driving #sustainable development and improving the resilience of farming communities. In Kenya, we have a regional project management team and a dedicated field team. One of our flagship projects is an #agroforestry initiative in Kilifi County, enhancing local #ecosystems and providing long-term benefits to farmers. Our approach involves building strategic relationships with existing business verticals within ETG. This helps identify new opportunities and integrate climate projects within the group's extensive footprint. Team development is vital to our success. Leading the local team buildout and ensuring smooth onboarding processes equips our field team to achieve our ambitious #goals. This includes overseeing diverse projects such as afforestation, #biomass and #biochar initiatives, soil carbon projects, and blue carbon efforts. Effective project delivery is ensured through meticulous supervision and regular monitoring, reporting, and verification. Timely updates on project progress, challenges, and regulatory changes keep all stakeholders informed and aligned. Maintaining relationships with governmental institutions is also key, ensuring projects comply with local regulations and receive governmental support. Wheat production is marginal in Thailand, mainly due to unfavourable climate conditions and a lack of seed development. As part of ETG’s commitment to #empower our #youth, we launched our Global Management Trainee Program. (#GMTP) This program provides aspiring young professional a comprehensive understanding of corporate, business and financial management, preparing them for significant responsibilities and success in their #careers. We have launched the new #GMTP earlier this year, and are happy to report on their progress. Following an initial training phase in #Dubai, trainees advanced to an intensive five-week business program in #IvoryCoast. During this period, trainees explored sales and marketing strategies, supply chain management, project management, and finance management. They engaged in field visits and case studies, which enriched their understanding of real-world business scenarios. The program also covered risk management and operational excellence, a sustainability overview, and procurement practices. Key locations visited in Ivory Coast included Abidjan, where trainees visited the head office and warehouses to gain insights into operational strategies. In Daloa, the focus was on ground procurement and cooperative work, while Divo highlighted sustainability projects and practices. The visit to Assinie provided a more relaxed environment, ideal for team-building activities. The training concluded with a three-week in-depth finance training phase, also conducted in Ivory Coast. This final segment was designed to equip trainees with advanced financial acumen. The curriculum included financial accounting and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, investment analysis, corporate finance, and the use of financial software and tools. Building Skills through #Amrut Foundation, an ETG affiliated NGO: Free Yoga Classes: In rural Kwa-Zulu Natal, through the Township Youth Project, Amrut offers free yoga, meditation, and psychological assistance, led by instructor Zweli Vilakazi. Similar services are available at Tshimangadzo Care Center in Johannesburg and Children of Light Educare in Cape Town. Toilet Facilities Installation: At Lee Primary School in Ilembe, KZN, Amrut transformed an old storeroom into six much-needed toilets, enhancing the learning environment and hygiene for junior learners. Tech Literacy and AI-Preparedness: In partnership with Odin Education and Liebherr, Amrut promotes tech literacy and AI-preparedness in the Eastern Cape by distributing education-focused tablets. Classroom Block Construction in Mozambique: Amrut partnered with the Mozambique School Lunch Initiative (MSLI) to construct a new classroom block in Chate, tackling student drop-out rates and ensuring safe access to education.
