A toddler is in life-threatening condition after falling from a Mission District window, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at 2315 Mission St., near 19th Street, at 4:17 p.m. after being called for the fall, according to Capt. Justin Schorr, a fire department spokesperson. Paramedics found a child with injuries “consistent with a fall” in their mother’s arms, he said.
The child, who is 15 months old, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for life-threatening injuries. The fire department did not release any information on the extent of the injuries or the identity of the child.
The building is a three-story apartment complex next to Plaza Adelante. The height of the fall was unclear, said Schorr. “We don’t know how the child fell, or how far the child fell.”
In a statement, the San Francisco Police Department said that the incident is under investigation, and that Child Protective Services had been notified of the fall and “will be conducting their own investigation.”
Though he did not know what precipitated the fall, fire department spokesperson Schorr did caution San Franciscans to be wary as they open windows to cool off during the heatwave.
“We’re opening up windows and doors that we maybe never open, so we really want to keep an eye on children and pets that are going to areas that they never had access to before.”
Ugh! A parent’s worst nightmare in the city 😓 My heart goes out to the family during this time. So stressful!
Hi there! I am a close friend of the family’s and have set up a GoFundMe to help the family pay funeral and memorial bills. Any donations and thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

The go fund me states that the child died on July 3rd the day of the fall. No other news agency has reported that the child died. Any updates?
That poor baby. 🙁
I hope they will be ok. We used to be worried about this when our kids were little. Fortunately our window openings were deep enough and wide enough that we could put standard baby gates in there.
