Quote1 No. Not just one. Dozens. Flooding in through the floorboards. The air vents. The cracks in the walls. And that scent! They reek of deadly toxins that could poison my psyche. Transmute my very being. One sting... and my fate is sealed. Or it would be sealed... if I were an ordinary man. But jungle potions have heightened my senses, enhanced my immune system. And the spider-venom... has made me a god. A god who will consume these murderous insects. Absorb their toxins. Transmute them... into raw power. Quote2
—Hunter-Spider[src]

History

While hunting for a legendary lion in Zimbabwe, Kraven found his prey already slain by a gigantic spider, which attacked Kraven soon after, only for Kraven to slay his new target. Months later, he adopted the pseudonym Hunter-Spider, and was commissioned by J. Jonah Jameson to rid animal-themed costumed supervillains from New York City, killing any he encountered and having them taxidermied as trophies in his residence. Successful in his latest hunt, Kraven was at home admiring his private collection of stuffed victories when his spider-sense alerted him to a flurry of wasps breaching his residence. Catching and consuming the wasps, laced with psychotropic poisons, Kraven's augmented immune system allowed him to sense the formidability of their controlling consciousness. He sought out Madame Web soon after to hunt said consciousness, subsequently accepted into the Multiversal Spider-Army.[2]

Kraven was among the Spider-Army when they fought against Shathra and her army.[3]

Eventually Kraven returned to his reality where he met and fought his world's Cletus Kasady who had bonded to the Venom symbiote and taken on the mantle of Venom. During the fight they were interrupted by the Carnage symbiote of Earth-616 and his host Jon Shayde. While Carnage wanted to kill Kraven, Jon was more focused on Venom, so Carnage simply split from Jon and fought Kraven who seemingly won the fight only for Carnage to gain the upper hand until Morlun arrived and sucked the Inheritor energy from Kraven. Carnage, Morlun, and Kraven then went their separate ways with an understanding of each other and Kraven went back to fighting his world's Venom.[4]

Sometime later, Kraven would be invited to join the Spider-Society by either Miguel O'Hara of Earth-2099 or Anya Corazon of Earth-616, he would accept amongst others.[5]
