History
Honir was a brother of Balder and the champion spear thrower of Asgard. When Odin ordered Balder's execution after Balder had deserted a battle to return a fallen bird to its nest, he ordered Honir to throw his spear at Balder's unprotected chest. Before the spear could hit Balder, a plan shot up from the ground and deflected the spear - as was revealed, Odin himself had caused the plant to act this way, only wanting to test Balder's braveness before granting him invincibility.[3]
When Thor had decided to reveal his secret identity to his beloved, Jane Foster, Odin removed his powers temporarily. Honir was sent to restore Thor's powers when he was attacked by the Grey Gargoyle.[1]Notes
- Journey Into Mystery #106 mentions that Honir is Balder's brother. It is unknown whether he is a full brother by Odin and Frigga (which would also make him Thor's half-brother), a half-brother from only one of these sides or an adopted child.
- The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Master Edition #29 entry of Balder list Honir as "alleged brother".[4]
