Should Glossary: be made a custom namespace? C Teng(talk) 13:22, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it is, were you saying it shouldn't?
Nathan (Peteparker) (Earth-1218) (talkcontribsemail) 03:40, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
No, it's not a custom namespace. If it were, it this page would be called Glossary talk:Contents, you would be able to search for Glossary pages on Special:Search, and Special:Random/Glossary would work. C Teng(talk) 12:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
See w:Help:Custom namespaces. C Teng(talk) 01:13, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for bringing this up, my friend. Personally, I don't like custom namespaces because they exclude themselves from the rest of the site. (We're still having minor problems with Comics:). So if it were solely up to me, I'd remove 'Glossary:' from all the pages, and leave them with the Glossary Template. We don't need an entire namespace for them, IMHO. :)

Oh, and we wouldn't have to fix them, it'd be up to a bot. ;)

Are those "minor problems" with Comics: being that all of the custom namespace articles are automatically being added as mainspace articles on {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}? C Teng(talk) 15:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Yea, that was one of them that was 'fixed'. We weren't getting credit for any of the articles in the Comics: namespace, so all the custom ones were added into the mix to give us a true number of articles count. One of the current problems we're having with Comics: is that the random page link over there on the left won't take you to any custom namespace pages.

That's a problem? I would think of it as a problem if the Random page button did take you to a custom namespace. But if you want, you could just use Special:Random/Comics. C Teng(talk) 23:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
I suppose 'problem' isn't the right word. But just about every Wiki person I've encountered in my wiki travels has told me how dysfunctional custom namespaces can be. Plus, our sister sites, DC, darkhorse and Image don't use 'Comics:', so I'd prefer to have all four on the same page. It makes template creation for all the wikis easier when one isn't remarkably different than the others.
