Fogwell's Gym was a boxing gym located on the Lower West Side of Manhattan. Fighters who trained at the gym included Battlin' Jack Murdock, the father of Matt Murdock, better known as the vigilante Daredevil.[2]

History

Daredevil came to Fogwell's in search of the Fixer to avenge his father's death; he defeated Porky, Sam and other bruisers, until Fixer and Slade ran away in the streets.[2] Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich later came to Fogwell's Gym to investigate Battlin' Jack Murdock's death.[3]

Daredevil later returned to the gym after being stabbed by Turk Barrett, where he collapsed and was found there by Maggie.[4] After he recovered, Matt trained at the abandoned gym.[5]

After the death of Karen Page, Matt Murdock bought Fogwell's and refurbished the gym with the help of Foggy Nelson and Melvin Potter, the latter of whom he left to run the place. Murdock also renamed the building "Battling Jack's Gym" in honor of his late father,[1] though the original "Fogwell's" moniker would continue to be used.[6] Some time later, Daredevil came back to the gym and saved Don from Bullseye.[7]

Trivia

  • Alexander Bont claimed to have owned the building, though he also wrongly stated that this was the location where Jack Murdock was killed.[6]
  • In LEGO Marvel's Avengers, Fogwell's Gym is the location where Nick Fury gives Steve Rogers information on the Tesseract. Strangely the word "Fogwell's" was removed from the building in this appearance.[citation needed]
  • In Daredevil Annual, Mike Murdock refers to an "old man Fogwell" who allowed him into the building after hours, suggesting that the original namesake of the gym still has a presence at the facility.[8]
