Why the Program was Started

The original DeputyProgram Supporter Community Program Supporters (formerly Deputies) are a team of people worldwide who review WordCamp and Meetup applications, interview lead organizers, and keep things moving at WordCamp Central. Find more about program supporters in our Program Supporter Handbook. program was started in an effort to both decentralize management of the overall Community program and help with the large volume of daily emails. It started with a small pilot program in October of 2014 and has grown from there.

In 2023, as we rebounded from the pandemic, the decision was made to update the program to better fit the community it was serving. Roles were shifted to make room for new contributors, particularly those who had helped with the Meetup Reactivation.

These changes to the program should enable future flexibility as our events and community evolve.
