Mysql ISAM vs InnoDB

$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there an advantage to using InnoDB tables? The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. See http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=1341 We're wondering if we should just convert everything to MyISAM. editing the edition buttons

Hello, I'd like to modify the edition buttons (the buttons you have above the edition frame when you modify a page), to remove the date from the signature button, and keep only the name. It works manually when removing one of the '~' from the signature added (the button adds --~~~~), so I'm trying to find where the javascript for the buttons comes from. -- *André Meunier*

Custom namespaces and discussion pages

It's right, as there is no discussion page for that article. But if you click on it, it brings you to http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a… correct, of course. But have a look of the article and discussion tabs: they are both red! The first, "article", leads to http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a… when it should lead to http://botwiki.sno.cc/wiki/Perl:Copyright_Violation_Bot and the second, "discussion", leads to http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Talk:Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_… , when it should lead to http://botwiki.sno.cc/w/index.php?title=Perl_talk:Copyright_Violation_Bot&a… . It's the first time I deal with custom namespaces :-( but I have some ideas of what it can be. Can the problem be with the $wgContentNamespaces settings? So it detects everything as ns0? (don't think so). Or can it be the fact that I haven't used an underscore in the $wgExtraNamespaces definition? Thanks for the answer. I just tested, and it only works if I disable the Extension:UsabilityInitiative in $IP/LocalSettings.php #require_once("$IP/extensions/UsabilityInitiative/Vector/Vector.php"); Do you know something about this bug and how to fix it? Greets

about requiring PHP 5.2

Hello, Looking at INSTALL it seems we are still supporting PHP version 5.1 which is 5 years old in a couple of weeks. This is getting old and prevents developers from using some new features. Ideally we could raise it to 5.3 to get Namespace support, closures but that might be to early since most webhost probably still use 5.2.x. Would it be possible to consider raising the requirement to at least 5.2.0 ? This would give us native JSON support and most probably the filter extension enabled by default. statistics, counter

I am searching for an extension that shows the developments of hits on my wiki comparable to, for instance, [statcounter.com]. User came from, search queries, etc, would also be good to know. So far, I only found Extension:Usage Statistics, which produces strange output on my Wiki and is moreover unpleasant to handle. Any suggestions? Thx Bernhard PS: For the moment I have installed statcounter.com, which requires some loading time, however, since it is loading an external JS file. There should be a more elegant solution since the data are there, aren't they?

I am pleased to announce the upcoming MediaWiki Hack-A-Ton in Washington, DC. As you are all aware, every year in April our good friends at Wikimedia Deutschland host the annual "MediaWiki Developers Meetup" in Berlin. At that event, the program is focused on demonstrations, workshops and small group discussions. To complement this, we're planning the DC meetup to be focused solely on hacking, bugfixing and getting down and dirty with the code. We're scheduling this for October 22nd-24th in Washington, DC. Some of the details haven't been ironed out yet, but will be announced over the coming days as it is. So clear your calendars, and keep your eyes on MediaWiki.org[1] and the mailing lists for more information. Some travel assistance may be available for those coming a long way. Tagline system message : single quote changed in '

Hi, On my french wiki i have the following tagline system message : {{#if:{{NAMESPACE}}||« {{PAGENAME}} » défini et expliqué aux enfants par les enfants.}} (which means : "[Name of article]] defined and explained to children by children") Ok, this is fine. But the problem is that every single quote (') is converted to ' Example : http://fr.wikimini.org/wiki/Armel_le_Cl%C3%A9ac%27h I've noticed this problem on other french wikis. Any idea or maybe a solution ? Thank you for your help Laurent

Correct way to modify specialupload.php?

I want to comment out couple of lines of code in the file /var/lib/mediawiki/includes/specialupload.php file. Here are the lines: //if( $this->detectScript ( $tmpfile, $mime, $extension ) ) { // return new WikiErrorMsg( 'uploadscripted' ); //} Now I know that it is not a good idea to modify the core mediawiki files. What is the correct way to do this then?

Hiding Images

I sent this out about a week ago, but I'm still looking for a response. Is there a way I can keep uploaded images hidden from certain usergroups? I have created a namespace on my wiki that is viewable only to certain usergroups. The goal of this namespace is to have a place to create articles, so that I can time their release at which time I move the pages to the main namespace. So far this works well, except with images, which are of course in the special File namespace. Perhaps if there was an extension that allowed me to set the permissions of images.
