Dr. Campos is a family physician with over thirty years’ experience in clinical practice. Her interest and passion has been to work in the delivery of high quality medical care and medical education to communities of need. To this end, much of her career has been spent in patient care and teaching as a faculty clinician within medical residency training programs and the Public Healthcare Systems.
Dr. Campos served as the Medical Director of the Los Angeles County Long Beach Comprehensive Healthcare Center. She also served as Family Medicine clinical faculty for the Harbor-UCLA, Glendale Adventist Hospital, and for the University of Texas in Houston family medicine residency training programs.
In addition to clinical practice, she served as a senior medical executive within Cigna Healthcare where she served in multiple roles as a Medical Director overseeing a network of clinics and hospital located within the inner city of Los Angeles. Her interest in quality of healthcare led her to be named the Director of Quality Assurance for Cigna during a time when the medical community was beginning to develop methodologies to quantify the quality and effectiveness of health care.
Dr. Campos currently sits on the Board of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and is Co-Chair of the NHMA DC-Metro Regional Steering Committee. In this capacity, she continues her work to mentor Latino medical students, residents, and young physicians in the DC Metro area. She is representing NHMA as a member of the Movement Is Life Caucus Steering Committee, a multidisciplinary coalition which seeks to eliminate racial, ethnic, and gender disparities in musculoskeletal diseases among African American and Latino women through a nationwide campaign to promote physical mobility and improve quality of life. She also sits on the Board of Nueva Vida of Washington DC, an organization that supports Latina women with cancer through the formation of a support network that includes mental health survivorship support for women and their families, cancer awareness and outreach programs, and patient navigation services. She is a member of Charter 100 of DC, a women’s professional group. She and her husband are active in the support of the Smithsonian Latino Center.
She received her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, her Medical Doctor degree from Harvard Medical School, and Masters of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her post-graduate training was completed at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.
Dr. Campos is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Campos resides in DC with her husband, Roel.
