F. Christian Thompson

F. Christian Thompson was a research entomologist for the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Thompson received both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Dr. Thompson authored over 130 scientific publications and was one of 25 specialists from throughout the world elected to advise on the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. He was a dedicated and vocal philanthropist who believed in giving back to those organizations that affected his life and work. He established dedicated endowments for both the Smithsonian Institution and the Smithsonian Libraries. He also served as president, president-elect, and treasurer of the Entomological Society of Washington, D.C., and received special recognition for his “outstanding leadership and dedicated service” by the Eastern branch of the Entomological Society of America.
