Why I have a minimal website theme

AI generated summary: I chose a minimal website theme because it reflects my personality. Despite appreciating fancy sites, I find joy in clean, simple designs. This minimalism offers a sense of control amidst life's chaos, aligning with my preference for simplicity in digital spaces.

Wouter Groeneveld wrote about his new website theme. His old one was too minimal for his taste, and so he decided on a more fancy theme.

I got tired of the clean look. It didn’t spark joy and I didn’t really like looking at my website any more: the minimal theme perhaps became too clean. The more other personal blogs I discovered with popping colours screaming personality, the more depressed I became with my own take at a minimal design.

This got me thinking: Why don’t I have any problems with my current theme, which I am now using for longer than I ever used any website design before. And why am I so happy with the clean and simple look and with just two colors (excluding emojis and images)?

I think the reason is my personality: I like clean and simple things, especially in the digital world. Sure, I also like to visit more fancy websites, and I’m impressed by the web design skills you need to have for it, but having something like that wouldn’t represent myself. Not to speak about the difficulties I would have designing and building something like that.

Even in school, when everyone tried to create fancy PowerPoint slides with hundreds of animations and stylistic backgrounds, I tried to keep things simple, using only black and white.

Maybe my life is already chaotic enough so that I attempt to keep things simple where I have control over it? Possible.
