I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Wesleyan University. My scholarly work concerns Congress, the presidency, and American Political Development.

I am the co-author, with Jeffery A. Jenkins, of Congress and the First Civil Rights Era, 1861-1918 (University of Chicago Press, May 2021). In January 2023 our book was awarded the V.O. Key Award by the Southern Political Science Association.

My published work has also appeared in Studies in American Political Development, American Political Thought, The Du Bois Review, The Journal of Law, Economics & Organization, and Law and History Review.

I teach courses on the Presidency, the National Security State, American Political Thought, and American Political Development.
