Well done Mauro Marchese! It is not so common to achieve authorship of a journal publication even before graduation! This is a great result from an effectively conducted international collaboration pursued by prof. Pietro Savazzi with prof. Henk Wymeersch and Dr. Paolo Spallaccini. It somehow reflects the great potential of a thriving #research ecosystem in #signalprocessing and #communications, that the Telecommunication and Remote Sensing Lab at UniPV is part of. Congratulations to all authors!
I am thrilled to announce that my first paper, titled "Progressive Inter-Path Interference Cancellation Algorithm for Channel Estimation Using Orthogonal Time–Frequency Space" was published in Sensors MDPI yesterday! This paper stems from my master's thesis research on OTFS systems for 6G networks. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my supervisor and co-authors for their invaluable guidance, collaboration and support, and to everyone who has supported this project. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dNDicVKT

In the first half of this week I attended #IEEEE #IGARSS2024 in Athens, Greece to present two scientific papers from our activity in the framework of the project NODES - Nord Ovest Digitale E Sostenibile. A poster on manure application detection in dry, sandy #farmland and an oral talk on large-scale inter-row management mapping in #vineyards from #Sentinel-2 data leveraging spectral behaviour and time series. It was a great occasion to exchange views with other scientists working on Earth observation for #agricultural #applications. Presenting the research carried out at Telecommunication and Remote Sensing Lab at UniPV at the University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering offered us a chance to gather relevant feedback and steer our future developments. Many thanks to my old acquaintance and friend Fumio Yamazaki for sharing some of his pictures!

Thanks Josep for your time at the Telecommunication and Remote Sensing Lab at UniPV. It was great to see you here, your lectures conveyed an incredible value to our students at the University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering. Looking forward to a continuing, fruitful collaboration!
In the last month, I had the opportunity to travel, meet with collaborators, colleagues, and friends, hear outstanding talks and share some of the work that we are doing at the Ultrabroadband Nanonetworking Laboratory and the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT) at Northeastern University. First, I taught a two-week course on Terahertz Communications at the University of Pavia, hosted by Anna Vizziello and Paolo Gamba. I met great students, continued existing, and triggered new collaboration lines. Shortly after that, I stopped by the EuCNC & 6G Summit in Antwerp, where I had the opportunity to participate in two workshops: I gave a Keynote Speech on Near-field Terahertz Communications at the Second International Workshop on Wireless Communications in Terahertz (IWCT), organized by Joonas Kokkoniemi, Kenta Umebayashi, and Nuutti Tervo; and joined an exciting and very timely panel at the Strengthening EU-US Cooperation in Experimental Infrastructures Towards 6G, invited Luis Pessoa and Dr. Odysseas Pyrovolakis. From Antwerp, I jumped to Denver, Colorado, for ICC, where we had a packed week: a keynote at the Second Workshop on Near-field Communications, Localization, and Sensing (thank you Yuanwei Liu, George Alexandropoulos, Francesco Guidi, and others for the invitation!), our most recent paper on channel sounding presented by Priyangshu Sen, a panel on Nanonetworking co-organized by Hadeel Elayan and moderated by Sasitharan Balasubramaniam, together with Rober Schober and Ilangko Balasingham, and many great discussions along the corridors and over meals. To wrap up this week, and still in Denver, I am sharing exciting discussions with many colleagues at the ERVA Strategic Engineering for Next-Generation Wireless Competitiveness Task Force, chaired by Dan Mittleman. The trip doesn't stop here. More next week!

Last week we at the Telecommunication and Remote Sensing Lab at UniPV had the pleasure of hosting our esteemed colleague prof. Avik Bhattacharya from the Microwave Remote Sensing Lab (MRSLab), Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in Mumbai, India. Prof. Bhattacharya taught a short course on #PolarimetricRadar Sensing and Applications to our #PhDstudents in the framework of an educational initiative by our #PhDSchool in Electronic, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering coordinated by prof. Ilaria Cristiani. The vast expertise and clear explanations of prof. Bhattacharya provided valuable insights into this advanced #remotesensing technique. The course, held at the University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering offered a comprehensive overview of polarimetric radar theory, applications, and data analysis methods. We are grateful for the opportunity to have deepened our understanding of this critical tool for #Earthobservation and exploration, and are looking forward to the next steps in our long-standing scientific cooperation! #PolarimetricRadar #RemoteSensing #IITBombay

On Tue 14th March, I was part of the graduation committee of the Computer Engineering MSc. I was also the tutor of a candidate, CRISTIAN GARAU, who successfully defended his thesis work on mapping inter-row management practices in #vineyards using time series of #multispectral #satellite data. Inter-row spaces in vineyards can be managed in different ways, impacting on various aspects of #grape production. These include for example grape #vigor and #quality, #soil quality, but also #ecosystemservices such as #biodiversity. Assessing inter-row practices on a large geographical scale, albeit useful for ecosystem management, can be time-consuming and very costly. Satellite #Earthobservation technology can offer a powerful alternative at a far lower cost thanks to open satellite data from the #Sentinel constellations. Sentinel data, however, does not feature sufficient spatial resolution to directly observe inter-row cover. Cristian explored how seasonal variations in spectrally mixed responses can be leveraged to identify inter-row management practices, yielding promising insights for accurate #classification. His convincing results led to a very good final mark. Congratulations, Cristian! This research was carried out in the Telecommunication and Remote Sensing Lab at UniPV, University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering, in the framework of the "VINO" flagship activity of the NODES - Nord Ovest Digitale E Sostenibile project.
