We have adopted an approach that avoids sending the same standard quote to all clients. Instead, we prefer to discuss each client's training needs in detail and offer tailored solutions based on their specific requirements. Our approach is flexible, ensuring that every session we conduct is unique, even if it involves the same industry or similar requirements. While it would be easy to send the same quote, agenda, and presentation slides repeatedly, doing so would undermine the purpose of evolving training and development.

Oversubscribed ! When I went to look at the sign up list for my session it had already been taken off the table given the sign ups ! Here is a snippet of what was discussed at my table: 1. Context before content - ultimately all content must serve the audience and the more context you have the greater the ability to craft an exceptional speech. I always tell my clients that my 50 unrelated questions do serve a purpose even if not apparent at first glance. like a doctor diagnosing the nerve center, I try to zero in on the point of most impact. 2. Keynotes maybe 45 min but they can take 30 plus hours to pack a punch. It is not the hour but the value one packs in it. 3. Don't aim to impress rather aim to impact. Shifting people from point A to be so that the frame of reference is a more useful one is the goal. There is a big difference between an opening keynote and closing keynote Each of the questions evoked so many stories from more than 2 decades of Keynotes across the world. Udai Pareek Memorial book: HRD OD and IB by Rao and Khandelwaal: In the third chapter on Trade offs and Trade secrets in HR, Dr. Sethumadhavan presents seven trade offs HR professionals face. 1. Blaming the stage versus learning to dance, 2. Centralizing HR versus devolving HR, 3. Accepting organizational culture versus changing organizational culture, 4. Professional versus political approaches, 5. Serving the employees versus serving the employers,6. Policing employees versus developing the employees and their careers, and 7. Short-term gimmicks versus long-term capability development. These seven typical dilemmas and tradeoffs that HR practitioners experience in today’s world are linked to the issue of credibility and effectiveness of HR. Sethu argues that HR professionals should be aware of the “tradeoff ” situations in order for them to make effective and conscious choices. If they are not aware or if personal preferences and perceptions drive their decisions, it might lead to loss of image and credibility of HR. The trade secret is therefore to try to unravel the hidden alternatives by identifying the tradeoffs involved before making major decisions about HR issues.

‘When the atmosphere encourages learning, the learning is inevitable’   One of the most important and crucial aspect of soft skills training is creating a "Safe Learning Environment" where every participant feels trusted, included and belonged to   Here’s how I make an effort towards this-   1.    Creating WoWs- The co-created norms right in the beginning of the session lays a foundation of trust and mutual respect. This is quite similar to creating democratic environment and make everyone feel invested in the process.   2.    Vegas Rule: Ensuring that whatever is shared in training room stays in there only; is crucial for building trust and bring the sense of safety for participants to express themselves.   3.    Sharing Vulnerabilities- Not pretending to be somebody perfect and being open to sharing my own vulnerabilities and how I overcome those.   4.    Everyone Counts- As a trainer, I make it a point to avoid favoritism and partiality towards any of the learners. I remember during school, there were always a few students who would answer every question and complete every task quickly, often overshadowing others. However, focusing only on the understanding of these few students isn't enough to move forward. It's crucial to address the doubts and needs of every participant to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Each and every participant is important.     5.    Beyond the Spotlight- In one of the seminars which I attended long time back, the speaker asked a question to one of the audiences who had no answer to this question. I could see the sense of embarrassment on this participant and hence I avoid signaling anyone by name to answer question as it creates unnecessary pressure and spotlight on the participant. Group discussions and voluntary contributions are always better, allowing each participant to engage at their own pace without being forced.   6.    Valuing each question alike- Avoiding saying ‘Good Question’ when someone asks a something. While this phrase is well intentioned, I believe it can diminish the value of other questions. Instead, I acknowledge all inquiries with equal respect and appreciation, creating an environment where every participant feels their contributions are valued equally. This also helps maintain a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere, encouraging everyone to engage freely without fear of judgment.   If you are still reading this post, I invite you to share your own ideas and approaches for creating a safe learning spaces..

Reading the review and snippets of the book “Poor Economics” for kids (written by Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee who probably don’t need an introduction) by Menaka Raman in The Hindu posted some questions to me as a L&D professional. When we teach or learn Leadership and where we reflect on the topic of Empathy in Leadership, we need our Leaders at different levels to know that some of the colleagues under them are not there because they never had the opportunity as them but the challenges to get to that opportunity was more than them. This insight will help them have conversations with the colleagues to understand and work on the challenges than just push them for growth and opportunity.
