This week, let’s delve into Balaprasanth Sugavanam's inspiring journey at Tata Elxsi.   "I joined Tata Elxsi in 2019 as a Senior Industrial Designer after my M.Des from IITG. Initially, I worked primarily on FMCG projects and eventually handled a diverse range of project challenges ranging from home appliances to energy devices, and medical systems. Over time, my role expanded from design and research to client interactions, creating proposals and strategic presentations.   I've been guided by remarkable mentors like Shyamsunder Bk, who instilled visionary thinking by approaching projects and internal activities with foresight. He emphasised future planning and anticipating ahead. Similarly, Prasad Nimbalkar taught me to stay composed and polite, even in tough situations, and to navigate challenges calmly, exploring alternative pathways.  During the times of post-COVID-19 impact, I worked on designing premium storage water heaters for a renowned brand, adhering to a new design language and various technical constraints dealt with through virtual discussions. Clear communication and team synergy helped us navigate challenges, adapt quickly, and deliver a design that met aesthetic, functional, and compliance standards. This significant achievement with the design launch motivated us and provided valuable insights for efficiently handling future water heater design projects. In 2023, I participated in the Young Lead Program as well as a targeted Project Management training program. The company's commitment to continuous learning through platforms like LinkedIn Learning and the Learning Central initiative has facilitated my intellectual growth and updated me with industry trends. Additionally, receiving the ‘Customer Appreciation Award’ in 2022 and 'Stellar Contribution Award' consecutively in 2022 and 2023 has inspired me to strive for excellence.  My motivation at Tata Elxsi comes from diverse projects that stretch my design capabilities, from minor to large-scale appliances, packaging, and multi-disciplinary products, ensuring a stimulating job. I advise new joiners and freshers at Tata Elxsi to learn the unique processes and methodologies adopted here. The opportunity to work with domain experts across various fields provides an unparalleled platform for learning and growth.  I’m eager to explore new challenges, particularly in medical device design, a field I’m venturing into.
