CyberPowerPC CEO Eric Cheung Talks About Localising Prices for India, Spreading Awareness, Sponsoring Esports Events and More - Technology

Editor's Note: CyberPowerPC India gave IGN India access to CyberPowerPC Founder and CEO Eric Cheung for this email interview. We have paraphrased and edited the responses to split them into sub-topics for easier comprehension.

One of the biggest names in the custom gaming computer business, CyberPowerPC recently announced its arrival in the Indian market in partnership with Creative Newtech Ltd. The joint venture, appropriately named CyberPowerPC India, is ready to provide high-performance systems such as custom desktops, laptops and gaming accessories. The launch of CyberPower PC India also marks the company’s entrance into the Asian market.

Ahead of this momentous occasion, IGN India had the opportunity to interview Eric Cheung, the founder and CEO of CyberPowerPC. During this interview, we touched on several important topics for Indian customers, such as localizing prices, how they plan to spread awareness about the company, sponsoring Indian esports, and much more. Here is everything of note that we discussed during our interview.

Localisation of Prices and Differentiating From the Competition, and More

Starting with the most critical question, we asked Cheung how CyberPowerPC plans to localise the prices for the Indian audiences, as many of them might be reluctant to splurge a lot of money on a pre-built system. Cheung stated that the company understands that while Indian consumers take pricing as a “crucial factor”, they also focus on aspects like “quality, service assurance, and authenticity over just specs and pricing”. CyberPowerPC India will aim to provide a premium experience to the customers with “superior assembly, rigorous quality control, and thorough testing". The company wants to ensure its "customers get a well-supported, up-to-date, and reliable system that justifies the investment.”

After the question about price, we inquired about how CyberPowerPC India plans to differentiate itself from the existing local custom PC builders in the market. To answer this, Cheung noted that CyberPowerPC has more than 25 years of experience in the gaming industry. This experience has helped the brand be the “undisputed leader in gaming PC in North America for the last decade”. He said the company aims to provide a great customer experience at the best value with its partnership with Creative Newtech. Moreover, given that CyberpowerPC is focused solely on gaming and “understands the industry and its customer base better than anyone else", the company can be "a driving force in the holistic growth of the Indian gaming industry.”

Furthermore, Cheung also spoke about how CyberPowerPC’s years of experience and “partnership with all major component vendors as a market leader” puts them in the unique position to become “a leader in the Indian gaming market". The company can use its relationships and position to bring "the latest technology" to the market before its competition, along with "exclusive CyberPowerPC branded components that have been tested and vetted at scale in their global market." However, IGN India is not sure how accurate the aspect of bringing latest technology before the competition holds besides the CyberPowerPC-branded components.

CyberPowerPC India: Strategy To Achieve Success in India and Spreading Awareness

Coming to how they plan to penetrate the Indian market, CyberPowerPC will use the same strategy they have used to succeed in North America: to be the “first to market with the newest technologies at the best prices”. Combining this with years of experience, the company aims to ensure that they not only offer “the best performance gaming PCs in the market” but also provide “award-winning product quality, service and innovation”.

Cheung added that gaming PCs aren’t limited to gaming and have become the “benchmark for high-performance computers across nearly any sector”. Some of these sectors include AI (Artificial Intelligence), content production for graphics-intensive industries, and scientific research. Considering this increase in demand, CyberPowerPC India will service the needs of all these segments across industries.

Moreover, CyberPowerPC India understands that purchasing a PC is a significant investment for any consumer, so they find it crucial to “communicate the long-term value proposition and perks.” They will share this information through educational workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns that elaborate more on the “true potential of PC gaming and content creation.” CyberPower PC will also explain “how this industry has evolved worldwide and how India can benefit from embracing" high-performance hardware.

Product Portfolio, Services, Esports and Collaborations

Moving on to their collection of products, we asked why India didn't get their full roster of custom PC configurations right at launch. For context, CyberPowerPC India only offers a limited number of products and services at launch. Cheung said they could have launched “the complete bouquet of products and services from the launch day”. But they wished to go slow, lay a foundation and play the long game.

The CyberPowerPC founder clarified that they didn't want to overwhelm Indian gamers with their full collection. Instead, they wish to “handhold" the Indian audience and help them "learn what they want from the number 1 custom PC brand”.

We also asked them about esports, as CyberPowerPC has sponsored several esports teams and events globally. Given their interest in esports on the global stage, we needed to know whether they have plans to do the same in India. Cheung spoke about how “supporting and contributing to the growth of the Indian gaming and esports ecosystem” is one of their priorities. However, they can’t commit anything so early. For now, the company will “closely monitor the trajectory of the Indian esports industry”.

Towards the end of the interview, Cheung spoke about how they “already have strong partnerships with leading gaming hardware and component manufacturers like Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, Kingston, WD, Phanteks, Lian Li, and Cooler Master”. The company “will continue to nurture these relationships and explore potential collaborations that can benefit the Indian market.”
