Dark Souls developer From Software bought out by Kadokawa

Prepare to buy?

Dark Souls developer From Software has been bought out by Japanese publisher Kadokawa.

The news was reported by Siliconera, which clarifies that 80 percent of the studio's stock will be acquired by Kadokawa for a currently-undisclosed sum. The deal is set to be finalised on May 21.

From Software rose to prominence following the success of the Souls series, which started with Demon's Souls in 2009. In actuality though, the studio's been around since 1986, and is responsible for a number of franchises that have enjoyed Eastern success, including Armored Core and Tenchu.

Kadokawa, meanwhile, consists of a group of publishing companies that deal with games, films, books and more. On the games front, it's published some Suda51 titles including Lollipop Chainsaw, though it's recently moved towards developing its own titles too, such as Natural Doctrine.

From Software boss Naotoshi Zin explained he believes both companies stand to benefit from the deal, that should allow the creation of "more in-depth games".
