Report: Instead of Sony or Microsoft, EA Reportedly Looking to be Acquired by Apple, Disney, or Amazon

EA doesn't want to pick between the two gaming giants.

The past two years have shown gaming giants Microsoft and Sony to be on a studio buying spree. One could say that Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda is what kicked things off for this so called acquisition war between Sony and Microsoft.

The reason for it is because since Microsoft made the announcement in 2020, Sony has acquired around 7 studios in 2021-2022 so far, with the acquisition of Bungie, a former Microsoft studio still pending. Of course Microsoft is also on the verge of buying Activision for a mega deal which means that the acquisition war is far from over.

Naturally, this put the spotlight on the remaining independent studios in the world like Ubisoft, EA, Square Enix, and others. While there have been several reports suggesting that Ubisoft is looking to be acquired by a private equity firm, a new report suggests that EA has joined in and has already had talks with some of the biggest companies in the world.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, EA has already held acquisition talks with the likes of Apple, Disney, and Amazon. Additionally, EA also reportedly approached NBCUniversal for a merger but a deal never went through. There have been absolutely no comments on this from any of the parties in question.

These are still reports from various sources that nobody can verify at the moment so these rumours should be taken with a grain of salt. But, it is pretty clear that EA definitely does not want to be a part of Sony or Microsoft. Considering the companies it reportedly contacted are Apple, Amazon, and Disney, all of them benefit from the acquisition of a giant like EA since all of them are pushing towards gaming in their own way. Apple has Apple arcade, Amazon has Twitch and Prime Gaming and Disney has its Marvel IPs ready to be turned into games.
