Aurora Debuts as Second ‘Summer of Awe’ Installation

lluminate will debut its newest installation July 3, 2024 in San Francisco.

Introducing: Aurora

Twenty Laser Space Cannons, the same lasers used during Pride celebrations to create the world’s largest Pride flag up Market Street, are now aimed directly towards the sky from their platform on the Ferry Building’s roof.

When darkness falls, the lasers will converge at a single point equal to the height of the Ferry Building Tower and then spread outward towards the sky. (Don’t worry, we have FAA approval).

The multi-colored lasers will shine brightly from July 3 through July 7, visible from dusk until 1:00 am (except July 4, 10:30 pm—5:45 am). If the atmosphere cooperates–we need a bit of fog and haze–Aurora should be visible to people all around the Bay. Look up from where you live tonight.

Illuminate needs help raising $150,000 to cover the costs of all the Summer of Awe installations across the city. Please make a gift of any size to support Illuminate’s continuing efforts to create awe in the world.
