“Summer of Awe” Laser Series is back for 2024

Last year, Illuminate, the arts nonprofit behind The Bay Lights, used lasers to illuminate iconic structures around the city, including Coit Tower, Sutro Tower, and Grace Cathedral. This year’s Summer of Awe will start with WELCOME and will continue at the Ferry Building with Aurora, then move to Window, 20 lasers from the Fairmont Hotel into the Rose Window at Grace Cathedral. Other installations will be announced by Illuminate moving forward.

Current schedule dusk to dawn: (Additional dates and locations TBA)

June 28/29/30 #WelcomeSF Pride flag up Market Street to Twin Peaks
July 3/4/5/6/7 #AuroraSF at The Ferry Building
July 11/12/13/14 #GraceWindow Nob Hill Fairmont Hotel to Grace Cathedral

Illuminate will debut the laser series on June 28 with the return of the Pride Flag, which has mesmerized viewers for the past two summers using six laser cannons. This year, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of same-sex marriage in San Francisco, Illuminate and partner NuSalt Laser International will deploy 20 Laser Space Cannons. Illuminate is seeking to raise $150,000 for the effort through private philanthropy and a crowdfunding campaign.

Illuminate CEO Ben Davis expects the Summer of Awe to again resonate deeply with San Franciscans and visitors alike.

“Illuminate is creating and cultivating an entirely new art form with these laser installations in San Francisco,” said Davis. “Each Summer of Awe installation is a unique and unprecedented exploration of beauty and awe. Each is free to experience. We expect to reach millions of Bay Area residents and visitors.”
