Large-Scale Art, Lighting Installation, & Live Music To Come To Fulton Plaza

Illuminate is working to revitalize a challenging piece of San Francisco’s mid-Market area.

Using large-scale art, an extraordinary lighting installation, and live music, Illuminate is adding vibrancy to Fulton Plaza – which sits at the doorstep of San Francisco City Hall between the Asian Art Museum and the San Francisco Main Public Library.

The project is a partnership of Illuminate, San Francisco Recreation and ParksFriends of the San Francisco Library, and the Civic Center Community Benefit District (CCCBD).

Civic Center Soundtrack
Beginning February 2024

A six-month music program launched on February 13th, 2024 featuring three bands every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The schedule of performances can be found here. Each day of music will feature three performers coordinated by partner Independent Distribution Collective.

Koi Mural
February 2024

Immediate plans call for a massive Koi mural by renowned muralist Jeremy Novy. The two white and orange koi will circle the plaza on the blacktop.

Painting will start in late February, 2024.

Light Exhibit
Spring 2024

The third phase of the project features a massive programmable LED installation above the plaza – strung from the roofs of the Asian Art Museum and the library. Created by artist Josh Hubert, the piece includes 1,000 individually controllable LEDs, set in a sloping wave configuration. The two-year temporary array will reflect artful patterns of color and will increase overall ambient light.
