About ILCA

The International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) is the member association for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLC®) and other healthcare professionals who care for breastfeeding families. ILCA membership is open to all who support and promote breastfeeding. Members may join at any time and do not need to be an IBCLC to be a member.

We collaborate with key partners, organizations, and individuals to inspire and deliver improved health outcomes for families.

We believe knowledge is integral in developing our practice and skills.

We strive toward a skilled lactation work force that reflects the diversity of the populations we work with to improve health outcomes for all.

OUR VISION

World health transformed through breastfeeding and skilled lactation care.

OUR MISSION

To advance the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) profession and skilled lactation care worldwide through leadership, advocacy, professional development, and research.

OUR CORE VALUES

CONNECTION: We collaborate with key partners, organizations, and individuals to inspire and deliver improved health outcomes for families.

KNOWLEDGE: We believe knowledge is integral in developing our practice and skills.

EQUITY: We strive toward a skilled lactation work force that reflects the diversity of the populations we work with to improve health outcomes for all.

OUR AREAS OF IMPACT

As we move forward, we will measure each idea, decision, program, and initiative against these Core Values and determine how they will impact our three primary areas of impact: our members, the IBCLC profession, and the world.

OUR GOALS

All ILCA projects and programs work toward at least one of the following:

  • Provide innovative education and networking.
  • Provide access to and interpretation of lactation research.
  • Build capacity for future leaders.
  • Champion the IBCLC as the premiere lactation credential.
  • Advance breastfeeding on the global agenda.

OUR STRATEGIC MAP

The strategic roadmap brings together our vision, mission, areas of impact, and goals and provides a visual representation of the map that will chart the future of ILCA.

OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The ILCA Board of Directors has decision-making powers regarding matters of policy, direction, strategy, and governance of the organization. They steer the organization toward a sustainable future by adopting sound governance and financial management policies, and ensuring adequate resources. Meet the ILCA Board of Directors.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

ILCA Volunteers make all of the organizations programs and benefits possible.  If you are interested in sharing your expertise, connecting with other influential lactation professionals, and helping us transform world health, check out our current volunteer opportunities.

POLICY STATEMENT on CREATING a SAFE and INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT

ILCA is an equal opportunity volunteer organization and employer committed to principles of the broadest form of diversity. We foster an inclusive environment that supports leadership, advocacy, professional development, and research from varied perspectives. We support global access to skilled lactation care and the IBCLC profession. Therefore, speech and actions that create an unsafe space for employees, volunteers, or attendees at ILCA conferences or other public forums, who are members of social groups historically or systematically targeted by systems of oppression, are not permissible. This includes, but is not limited to, engaging in oppressive language and behavior on the basis of race, sex, class, gender identity/expression, religion, sexual orientation, age, nationality, ethnicity, and ability.

ILCA GLOBAL PARTNER PROGRAM

Organizations around the world – from established international organizations to emerging national and regional groups – are all working toward improving breastfeeding outcomes. Imagine the impact if these groups had a way to link together goals, break down barriers, and pursue common objectives.
ILCA’s Global Partner Program is facilitating dialogue and creating new linkages among organizations at the international, national, regional, and local level. Our goal: creating new synergies that support international, national, and regional programs while simultaneously identifying and facilitating the needs of emerging breastfeeding-related organizations.
