In just 4 days, the use of the hashtag #BoycottRipCurl increased by 424% 💣 Cyabra uncovered fake accounts that flooded conversations across X, Facebook, and Instagram. 🤖 Surprisingly, many of those fake profiles weren’t pushing agendas related to the brand itself. 🏄♂️ Instead, they were latching onto Rip Curl's trending hashtag to promote an idea that was irrelevant to the conversation. 📈 Rip Curl’s #PRcrisis illustrates a new technique in the world of #CrisisManagement. Nearly half of the accounts making the claim that Trump’s attempted assassination was staged were fake profiles. The fake profiles were manipulating public opinion using hashtags such as #FakeAssassination and #StagedShooting, as well as a manipulated AI image of Trump smiling while surrounded by Secret Service agents. Mere moments after President Biden had officially announced he would not be running for a second term, fake profiles were already latching onto his post and onto Vice President Harris’ post. Cyabra analyzed the first 9 hours following the announcement. Here’s what we uncovered: * Thousands of fake accounts commented on Biden’s and Harris' posts: 29% of the profiles commenting on Biden's post and 22% on Harris' post were fake. 🤖🗳️ * An opportunistic but harmful fake campaign, consisting of just 9 bots, promoted the porn site Jerkmate. In just a little under ten hours, those bots shared 1,999 posts, and reached the eyes of 200,000 people.
