Hearthstone + Roguelite mechanics = a match made in heaven.

The roguelite progression with the more ponderous pace of a card game makes it a fantastic couch game for chilling out and not being too stressed while still seeing the power creep as you build your deck.

If you ever liked traditional trading card games like magic or yu gi oh and RPGs, this is 99% going to scratch the same itches.

This is the first straightforward card battling roguelike I've ever finished, but as a fan of both roguelikes and card battlers, I felt right at home here.

The combat system is intricate enough to be deeply engrossing, but not so complex that it was overwhelming or obtuse.

I had an awesome time fighting my way up through the levels, and the difficulty was such that I always felt like I was about to die, even though in reality it only took me 3 runs to get to the credits.

I was a bit confused by all the relics - later in the game they gave me so many that every time I attacked 9 different things would trigger, and that felt a little more luck based than I would have liked.

My only other gripe is more of a preference issue with roguelikes in general, this genre just doesn't know how to have a single, clear ending.

I know there's a ton of content after you beat this the first time, but I stop playing when the credits roll unless it's clearly a joke, and I literally got an achievement that said "beat the game".

I've had a billion fights about whether I've really beaten games like this, but the only alternative is to play through it multiple times and I'm sorry but I just don't have the time or the interest.

I got credits, I loved it, its over.

One of the best card and rogue like game. It's one of the most known game if you like rogue like. It's very hard, very challenging and the variety of gameplay is amazing. Also lot of points for the sound and DA.

It's been a while since a game absorbed me as much as Slay the Spire. This is a game that (for better or worse) I could just not put down - it was so fun to go for new runs, getting interesting builds and getting farther and farther - though I must admit, that made losing so many times that much more frustrating. The fact that there is so much to do in this game beyond just getting to the credits is a testament to the depth and creativity of this game.

I saw credits on my second run of this game, it took me 10 hours to beat it with 3 / 4 characters, then I spent 30 hours trying to win with the last one. I'm very tired of this game right now. Am I done? LOL no. I will be back to it. I know it owns me now.

Picking up Slay the spire is fantastic at first. Deckbuilding, comboing, it has everything right about scratching the card game itch. I was able to beat the game with the four main characters rather quickly, but quickly plateaued trying to beat the heart. It quickly felt like it devolved into a RNG game when you tried to go for gold. I get that there is definitely a skill to the game to develop, but I simply decided to put the game down when I was done having fun. And it was very fun.

I haven't "beat" this in its entirety, but I feel comfortable marking it as done and providing a review while I continue to chip away at it. In short, this is an incredible roguelike deck builder that nearly perfectly straddles the line between rewarding challenge and difficulty. The runs aren't ever long enough that it becomes a chore coupled with the near-constant feeling of "next time I could..." and "I almost had that..." keeps it always exciting, and more importantly fun. With multiple characters that necessitate different playstyles, and then multiple deck-building approaches to each of those characters, the combinations and freedom-to-play are exciting and addicting. I imagine I'll be picking this back up frequently in between meatier narrative-driven games.

I am having so much fun playing this game. Such a unique twist on card games. It is one of those games where you just feel like you need to play one more level. Slay the Spire launched a whole new genre of games. It was the first deck builder dungeon crawler. Awesome unique game play. Very replayable. It is super easy to pick up and play for 5 minutes and then come back and play some more which makes it perfect for the steam deck.

It was mostly my first deckbased game, and it is awesome. Roguelike cardbased game where you will get cards (attacks or skill) to use in combat + items and relics like a roguelike. The game always change how to approch it, and isn't that easy to beat.

There is very little to one can say about STS that hasn't been said a million times. I only played long after the height of its popularity and after a million other deckbuilder rogue-likes had come out.

Essentially, you have 4 characters that are progressively unlocked as you win runs. Each of the four have very distinct playstyles.

You then take that character through 3 tiers of the spire fighting progressively harder enemies/bosses while building a strong, cohesive deck. Of course, there are builds they push you toward, but there are almost no limits to how you can potentially build your deck.

What I enjoyed was the unique playstyles of each character. For example, the robot fellow has elemental orbs that you play and each of the orbs has a different ability at the end of each turn. For instance, the default is lightning which damages random enemies. There is always a moment of confusion when you get a new character and figure out their gimmick, and a rewarding mental *click* once it makes sense.

I won't keep this long-winded, long story short is even though this is relatively old school in terms of release with how quickly the deck-builder games have expanded, I still found this to be at least in the top 3 of all the ones that I have played. Disclaimer is it might feel kind of barebones when you first start as there are no big gimmicks, but if you play until the deck symmetry starts to make sense, you will begin to understand the depth the game offers.

My god, the hours sunk into this game. I never knew that my gaming genre was rouge-like deck builders but there is absolutely nothing on earth that compares for me than removing all my bad cards and replacing them with good ones and finding unique ways to break the game. The synergies for each of the 4 characters (without mods) are so perfectly crafted and the balance of the game is unparalleled, with 20 levels of difficulty for each character and you still have to play right to win on easy.

A very fun card game and top in the genre. Artistically beautiful, very well developed mechanics, fast and fun to play. If it had more regular content updates, with new enemies, bosses or some playable character from time to time, I would give it a 10 without hesitation.

A very, VERY, good game. A ton of fun and has a very unique experience to it in the gaming landscape, similar to that of Dungeons and Dragons. The gameplay is quite engaging and the short runs help to allow for this as well. With the variety of each run from the random seeds and different characters, the game has a lot of replay-ability and continuous unlocks along the way as well. Edit: got a bit burnt out/repetitive so changed the score to be a bit lower
