Photographer Aaron Hockley

Hi there, I’m Aaron Hockley. I use photography to tell stories and share imagery of the world. I love working with businesses and organizations to provide top-notch photographs that can empower them to share their story and reach further toward their goals. In the last five years, I’ve also leaned hard into my role as the Tech Photo Guy, helping other photographers get comfortable with the technical side of the photography business.

Having been in the professional photography field since 2008, I’m based in Vancouver, Washington (just outside Portland Oregon), and I work with a common theme of helping businesses and organizations tell their story. That story might come at an event, or with their people, or through their products.

My clients include high-tech conferences, theater-style speaking events, startup events, fundraising parties, medical and legal offices, a multi-billion dollar communications company, national media organizations, and a variety of individuals.

Each client is unique and I bring my technical and artistic skills to your situation.

I’ve been recognized for my work, most notably:

  • 2022 Best of Show, Illustrative Division Winner, ACI Excellence in Imagery, ASP State Elite – Professional Photographers of Washington
  • 2018 Commercial/Illustrative Division Winner – Oregon Professional Photographers Association
  • 2015 Commercial Photography Finalist – World Photographic Cup representing the United States
  • 2015 3rd Place Commercial/Illustrative Image – Professional Photographers of America Grand Imaging Awards

I have earned my Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees (M.Photog.Cr.) from the Professional Photographers of America and am a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP). I’ve also been awarded the PPA National Award for service to photographers.

In addition to specific work for clients, I also license my work for other purposes.

I’m a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and adhere to their code of ethics. I believe in professionalism while working with others – but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to have fun. I’m currently the Secretary of the Professional Photographers of Washington, and I was the President of the Oregon Professional Photographers Association in 2017 and 2020.

In 2021 I released my first book The Computer Ate My Photos – a look at artificial intelligence and photography.
