What is a reblog?

A reblog is when you see a post you enjoy on Tumblr and click the reblog button to make the post appear on your blog, too. Now all of your followers can enjoy the post, thanks to your signal boost. Think of it as a copy of a post on your blog.

You should feel free to add commentary, or pics, a GIF, or any additional content you see fit when you reblog something. Or not! Whatever floats your perfectly specific boat.

How do I reblog?

To reblog, the first step is to make sure you’re logged into Tumblr. Once you are:

  1. Look in the lower right corner of the post you’d like to reblog on the dashboard (or the upper right hand corner of a blog post’s permalink page) and you’ll see the reblog button – two arrows forming a rectangle. Hit it.
  2. Clicking the reblog button will open the editor. From there, you can add your own caption if you want, and publish it on your blog. To upload an image or GIF, click or tap the corresponding picture icon or the little GIF icon to search for one.

To get to the original poster’s post, click the reblog graph icon and in the bottom you will see the original poster and the root post.

Limitations of Reblogs

Post Attribution in Reblogs

To be sure your posts are credited properly once others start reblogging them, use the content source field! In fact, we’ll automatically use it for you. No matter how many times an original post of yours gets reblogged, you’ll always be credited as the source. Rebloggers might add a GIF, or some commentary, but your username will always, always be stuck to the bottom of the post. Click on that source link any time you want to see the original post.

Why can’t I reblog this post?

There are a variety of reasons why you may not be able to reblog a specific post:

If you are unable to reblog any posts and none of the above applies, then it might be a technical bug. Please reach out to Tumblr Support.

How can I control who reblogs my post?

When creating or editing a post you can choose one who can reblog your post. You can choose between the following two options:

On Mobile Apps

When drafting a post, select the 3 dots (●●●) on the top right.

From here, you can choose one of two options.

On Web

When drafting a post, select the settings cog in the top right corner of your post editor.

From there, select “Reblog Control” to choose between Anyone (on Tumblr) or No One. (pictured below)

You can also block users to prevent them from interacting with you. Blocked users won’t be able to reblog your posts. To learn more about blocking, check out our “Blocking Users” article.

How can I delete reblogs?

You can delete reblogs on your own blog in the same way you would delete any other post.

To delete a single reblog on web:

  1. Click the account icon ( snowman.png ), then select your blog.
  2. Locate the reblog you’d like to delete and click the trashcan icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the post.
  3. Confirm the post deletion by clicking “Ok.”

To delete a single reblog in the apps:

  1. Navigate to the post you would like to delete.
  2. Tap on the trash can icon.
  3. Confirm the post deletion by tapping “Delete”.

You can’t delete reblogs of your posts on other user’s blogs. Deleting your account also won’t delete reblogs of your posts. Once a post is reblogged, that reblog becomes the property of the blog that reblogged it. You can control who can reblog your posts by changing that post’s settings in the post editor.
