Dream-pop stalwarts Cigarettes After Sex return today with their third studio album, X’s, the follow-up to 2019’s Cry. In a statement, lead singer and songwriter Greg Gonzalez describes the LP as “brutal,” even though it features the same gauzy, ethereal, weirdly soothing sound the band has become known for.
“I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface,” Gonzalez said. “I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it—in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget.”
X’s includes the previously released singles “Tejano Blue,” “Dark Vacay,” and “Baby Blue Movie.”
