The Game Bakers is an independent video game studio founded by Emeric Thoa and Audrey Leprince. To sum it up we often say we make games like we cook food: with a lot of care. We want to create that experience that you will remember, that you will have fantasies about long after it’s finished, and that will make you feel alive and energised. You might know us for: - Haven, our RPG / romantic comedy featuring Yu and Kay, two lovers on the run on a forgotten planet, multiple award-winner and 91% on Steam - Furi our frenzied 100% boss-fight game, with a unique mix of fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting, art style from Takashi Okazaki and an unforgettable electro soundtrack, in which you play Rider escaping from his deadly guardians. 95% on Steam. - SQUIDS Odyssey, our underwater tactical RPG featuring a band of unlikely Squids heroes - Combo Crew « the definitive beat-em up of the mobile age of gaming » (thanks Kotaku for the quote). We also made a TMNT brawler for mobile to launch with Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie, for the good folks at Paramount and Nickelodeon. Our studio is based in Montpellier but we work with a team of collaborators around France and the world.

    Hi everyone! It is finally time for us to let you in on what we've been cooking: our next game Cairn, a mountain ascent adventure with an intuitive climbing simulation. https://lnkd.in/dssVZJ_N We have created a new climbing simulation that gives you complete freedom to explore the mountain, read the rock face and decide on your route. Climbing is challenging, with difficult sections to navigate, and you will need to use your equipment and pitons wisely. Cairn’s story mode will take you on Aava’s journey, as she sets to conquer a summit no one has reached before, and you will decide what she’s ready to sacrifice to achieve the ascent.     This February we had a community week for Haven! What’s a community week though? They’re a bit of a tradition to us and a way to celebrate our games and the community we’re lucky enough to have built around them. For a week, we’ll share new content about the game, updates, but most importantly hold events that we can share with our community. Some of our favorites are Q&As on Discord and a fan art contest (with merch to be won!) These weeks are a great way to keep our games’ universe alive, but they’re also a nice moment for us to appreciate the community that has even more love than us for our games - essentially an all around exchange of warm feelings 🥖 Lovely artwork by this year’s fan art contest winner, TRCelyne

    We're delighted to release today Furi Demake - The Chain on Steam as a free game! It's a 8-bit inspired demake of the first boss fight of Furi. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/dpf7nec6 This has been a passion project for the team, and this is gift from our studio to all of you who have played our games over the years. It's also a love letter to the 90’s games of our youth. Furi won multiple awards and has been played by more than 3,4 million players since its release. Furi’s inimitable electro-original soundtrack has also been extremely popular, with over 160 million listens on streaming platforms only. We've kept updating the game over the years, with the recent addition of the Onnamusha Rider DLC and PS5 version, and now this free gift!     Our studio was invited at Paris Game Week for the launch of #GameFrance, an initiative from the CNC supported by the whole French ecosystem to amplify the attractivity of our beautiful country and the international reach of our games. Our CEO Audrey Leprince spoke with the French Minister of Culture about our studio's trajectory, which illustrates the richness and support of the ecosystem. The Game Bakers is an independent French studio that creates original games, with productions supported by the CIJV and FAJV, and a winner of the Grande fabrique de l'image call for projects as part of the France 2030 plan to support the studio's transition to scale.

    It’s our 13-year anniversary! We’ve been around for over a decade, and in this time we’ve created a whopping 7 games, plus a few extras. Join us for some reminiscing over all the games we’ve created so far! In 2011, we released Squids, our underwater tactical RPG. It was the beginning of our journey - and we set off with a bang! Squids hit #1 in paid games on the French AppStore, and #1 RPG in 65 countries. We followed up quickly, with Squids Wild West in 2012. It became one of the most highly-rated mobile games of the year. These two Squids games hold a special place in our hearts as our first games, and to this day we’re still extremely proud. We switched it up in 2013 with Combo Crew, our beat-em-all on mobile. It was “Game of the Week” for Apple and Kotaku called it “the definitive brawler on mobile” and that made us happy. We even included Street Fighter, Viewtiful Joe and Another World characters in the game. In 2014 we combined Squids, Squids Wild West and extra content to make Squids Odyssey, also available on Switch and on Steam! Controllers gave players access to a whole new level of gameplay - as they could control the direction of the squids while dashing (that’s advanced octopus skills). Then in 2015 we developed a game in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IP for Paramount and Nickelodeon. The game was created to be released on mobile alongside Michael Bay’s TMNT movie And finally, in 2016 we made our debut as a studio on PC and consoles, and it was time for our best seller: Furi. Furi’s a challenging, teeth-gritting boss fighter. It received an incredible response, whether for the gameplay, the art or the soundtrack. Furi is currently sitting at 91% positive reviews on Steam! Haven launched in 2020, featuring Yu & Kay, a couple fighting for their right to love each other and settling into their new life. Despite being a far cry from Furi in gameplay, Haven shares The Game Bakers' DNA and found its audience, it has 92% positive reviews on Steam, and won several awards! We’ve published The Couple Update for Haven, allowing players to pick the gender expression of their Yu & Kay. For a game about the freedom to love, it was important to include several couples to choose from. Along the way, there were many other game ideas we prototyped, but we had to stop to prioritize other projects. We never shared any of those, but here are visuals for three of them. There’s been many memorable moments during those 13 years: the live concert for Furi’s launch in Paris, Danger’s invitation to his concert for Haven, the awards our games have received… None of this would have been possible without our amazing team! Despite us trying to stay a small team studio, we are now 20 full-time employees, while we started at 2! Cheers to everyone who embarked on our adventures over the years. Altogether, it’s been a wild ride and we wouldn’t change it for the world. Here’s to another 13 years of making games!
