An unseasonably strong area of low pressure centered over
Southwest Alaska this afternoon is producing southwesterly gale-
force winds of 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt over Bristol Bay and
along the north coast of the Alaska Peninsula. These winds will
become more northwesterly by late this evening as they begin to
slowly diminish in intensity. Wave heights will build to between 8
and 12 feet along the Bristol Bay coast from Cape Newenham to
Nelson Lagoon, the area of heightened concern. Wave heights in the
open waters of Bristol Bay and the Southeastern Bering Sea will
build to between 12 and 16 feet. Wave heights will slowly subside
through Tuesday.

Those with marine interests along the Southwest Coast, especially
across Bristol Bay and the northern Alaska Peninsula coast,
should monitor the forecast closely for updates and take any
necessary precautions.
