Air Quality Alert

COC069-301500-
Larimer-
510 PM MDT Mon Jul 29 2024

...AIR QUALITY HEALTH ADVISORY FOR MULTIPLE POLLUTANTS FROM 1000
PM MONDAY UNTIL 900 AM TUESDAY...

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has
issued the following...

WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Multiple Pollutants.

WHERE...southeastern Larimer County. Locations include, but are
not limited to Loveland.

WHEN...1000 PM Monday July 29 to 900 AM Tuesday July 30

IMPACTS...Heavy smoke from the Alexander Mountain fire is possible
through at least Tuesday morning for the advisory area. Most of
the smoke will remain aloft through Monday evening, but brief
periods of moderate to heavy smoke will be possible downwind of
the fire in Loveland, Windsor, Severance, and southern parts of
the Ft. Collins area. Heavier smoke will be possible overnight
Monday night into early Tuesday morning for locations below the
fire on State Highway 34 and eastward into Loveland. Additionally,
elevated ozone levels will be possible throughout the advisory
area Monday afternoon and early evening.

HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is
thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain
indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease,
respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider
limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present.
Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is
making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in
your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

...OZONE ACTION DAY ALERT FROM 400 PM MONDAY UNTIL 400 PM
TUESDAY...

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has
issued the following...

WHAT...Ozone Action Day Alert.

WHERE...Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western
Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld Counties

WHEN...400 PM Monday July 29 to 400 PM Tuesday July 30

IMPACTS...Ozone Action Day Alert is now in effect for the Front
Range Urban Corridor. Request to limit driving gas and diesel-
powered vehicles is now in effect until at least 4 p.m. Tuesday,
July 30, 2024. Hot, dry and stagnant weather combined with
increasing wildfire smoke around the region will result in ozone
concentrations reaching the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
category on both Monday and Tuesday during the afternoon and
evening hours. Note: southeastern Larimer County, including
Loveland, will also be impacted by possibly heavy wildfire smoke
from the Alexander wildfire through at least Tuesday morning.
CDPHE requests that activities, such as driving non-ZEV vehicles
(i.e., gas or diesel), be reduced to lessen the impacts on
neighboring air quality. Additional air pollution in this region
may directly worsen air quality or contribute to precursors which
may also adversely affect air quality. For Colorado air quality
conditions, forecasts and advisories, visit:
https://www.colorado.gov/airquality/colorado_summary.aspx

HEALTH INFORMATION...Increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms
and breathing discomfort in active children and adults and people
with lung disease, such as asthma. Active children and adults, and
people with lung disease, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged
or heavy outdoor exertion.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM PDT WEDNESDAY...

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality
advisory for Klamath and Lake counties due to numerous wildfires
burning in the region.

The wildfire smoke combined with forecast conditions will cause air
quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels.

Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather and planned
burn operations. Smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs and worsen
some medical conditions. People most at risk include infants and
young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and
pregnant people.

People can take the following precautions to protect their health:

- Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air
  quality.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality.
- People with heart or lung problems and young children are
especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke
  levels are high.
- Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in
indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems.
- Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke
  if possible.

upwards and that an exceedence of the 24 hour National Ambient Air
Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near
future.

As of 8AM, Particulate levels in Butte, Hamilton are Moderate.

When air quality is Moderate... State and local health officials

...AIR QUALITY ALERT DUE TO ELEVATED PARTICLE POLLUTION LEVELS FROM
WINDBLOWN DUST...

The South Coast AQMD has extended an air quality alert due to
increased particle pollution from blowing dust. The air quality
alert is in effect until Wednesday morning.

In areas directly impacted by high levels of windblown dust, limit
your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and
avoiding vigorous physical activity. Run your air conditioner or an
air purifier. If temperatures allow, avoid using whole house fans or
swamp coolers that bring in outside air.

Exposure to high particle pollution levels can cause serious health
problems, including asthma attacks, heart and lung disease symptoms,
and increased risk of respiratory infections. People with heart or
lung diseases should follow their doctor`s advice for dealing with
episodes of unhealthy air quality. Children, older adults, and
people with respiratory or heart disease should avoid prolonged
exposure and strenuous activities when particle pollution levels are
high.

To help minimize outdoor particle pollution levels:
* Carpool, telecommute, reduce trips, or take public transportation
* Slow down if driving on dirt roads
* Stabilize loose soils

Levels of particle pollution can vary hour by hour and by location
depending on wind conditions.

To view current and forecasted air quality levels, visit the South
Coast Air Quality Management District website at aqmd.gov or
download the mobile app at www.aqmd.gov/mobileapp. Additional
details for this air quality alert may be available at
