"BIG NEWS" banner keeps coming back, anyone else?

mendhak says:

There's currently a blue banner being presented to us, which goes "BIG NEWS: Flickr joins 1% for the Planet! Read the blog to learn how your photos are building a better future for everyone.".

Dismissing it doesn't seem to work as the banner reappears after a while. It may not be on the next refresh but appears possibly on the news browser session or the next day, in the same browser on the same machine.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this behaviour?

Yes, this happens all the time with the "dismiss able" banners. For as long as I can remember. Its kind of ironic that my pro accounts went up 10% recently and then flickr gives 1% to the planet.

Ir reappears every time the cookies have been cleared.
Not sure if it reappears if they do not get cleared.

Yes same here evrytime I log in and when I go to streams,

I thought being a paid pro we were not suposed to get advertising?

How about an opt out for blue adverts please, if any admin are about :)

Flickr staff have stated before that these types of announcements are not considered advertising.

Yeah, I’ve seen it once and considered it annoying. So it directly went the way every annoying element on a website goes: into the blocking filter.

Maybe you can test:
userstyles.world/style/9399/shut-up-flickr-cookie-banner

Note:
I have not tested it:
my own userstyles remove it as well, but touch more things than this banner.

mendhak:

It's possible the banner is reappearing when your cookies are cleared, as Viejito mentioned.

If that isn't what is causing the trouble, please Contact Support so we can troubleshoot with you.

This type of announcement banner from Flickr always disappears on its own after a few weeks of running at the top of the page.

We can only hope. Of course, in 2024, nothing is more important to American business than virtue signaling.

It would wonderful if they would use the increased revenue from subscription hikes to fix the myriad of annoying and all-to-frequent problems with the SERVICE. I emphasize the word SERVICE because when you pay an ever-increasing amount for a PREMIUM SERVICE, you expect to get something that works 99% correctly at least 95% of the time. Today, a search of my photos using a known and valid search term returns no results. Every day, it's something new that fails to work properly.
