Steps to reproduce

1. Get the current user OPDS feed URL from https://libreture.com/page/opds/. It looks like https://WWW.libreture.com/library/{USERNAME}/opds-feeds/

2. On PocketBook e-book device try to add Libreture OPDS feed in "Network Libraries"

3. Fill authentication form

Additional information

Quick debugging uncovered that it is because actually OPDS feed URL https://WWW.libreture.com/library/{USERNAME}/opds-feeds/ redirects to https://libreture.com/library/{USERNAME}/opds-feeds/ removing WWW part. So Pocketbook software interprets it as an error response on initial request with HTTP basic authentication info. The same for all the feed URLs in OPDS catalog. So even if you specify main OPDS catalog as https://libreture.com/library/{USERNAME}/opds-feeds/ you still get error when will try to navigate to other built-in feeds, e.g. "All" or "Read".

The suggestion is to fix all the OPDS URLs and provide them without WWW domain section (and actually without HTTP redirect) from the first time. It will also remove 1 extra HTTP request navigating a feed.

Yes, yes, the DRM-free Bookshop page needs an overhaul.

I'd hoped we could get some other (cooler-looking) features out there first, but the feature that drives support for all those amazing bookshops needs some TLC. It helps everyone in the end.

Planned tools include:

It'd be useful to have some clarity around social DRM used by some stores (e.g. name, email, etc embedded visibly and/ or in book metadata). Is it acceptable to upload these assuming I've purchased them legitimately? The files are regular epub/ mobi/ pdf and can be opened in any app.

As a small project, I depend on word-of-mouth to attract readers.

One of the ways of thanking existing readers who share their experience of Libreture is to provide extra storage in return for attracting new readers.

It return for sharing a referral link that attracts a new reader who upgrades their storage, both readers will receive additional free storage capacity - for life!

Magazines and journals often use an ISSN instead of an ISBN (or may use both). It’d be nice if Libreture supported ISSNs and any similar querying/searching like you do for ISBNs.

It’d be great if Libreture supported two-factor authentication and/or Yubikeys to add an extra layer of security to our accounts.

I have lots of books available in multiple formats. It’d be great if I could upload all of these and have them appear as one book in my library rather than individual entries. Then when viewing a book, I could select which particular format I want to download.

Provide RSS feeds for readers' library lists as well as activity.

If a reader's library is public, others can subscribe to a list from it to see book activity.

Possibly allow generating custom Smart Lists in future, but starting with pre-built lists, such as:

It would be useful to have software that we can run on our own machines to host private Libreture instances, under a Free Software License (such as AGPL). This would benefit people who care about owning their own data. Having the source available would also allow other folks to contribute new features and bug fixes.

Allow any changes made to book details on Libreture to be applied to the actual ebook file's metadata. The corrected, updated, or expanded information is then available when the book is downloaded to an e-reader or app.

Tools for readers to initiate and run online book clubs.

Concept A user can create a public or private book club centred around a particular book. Private clubs would require a way for the creator to invite other users. The club would specify a suggested reading rate to keep everyone in sync e.g. a chapter per week, and a facility for users to comment on the current chapter - that could be a embedded third party service, but preferable if it appeared as part of Libreture.

It would add a social element without turning Libreture into a social network. An in-house Liberture Book Club. Occasionally introduce offers or giveaways for the selected book - the assumption being you would hopefully sell several copies to participants.

Maybe, book club invitees could include users who aren't registered yet - as a way to get new registrations....

The creator would not necessarily have to have the book in their library to create a book club. They could create a book club from a book in someone else's library.

They see a book they fancy reading in a reader's library or activity feed, select an option to create a book club with a start date and reading rate, add some users to invite and select if it's public or private. Public book clubs would appear on the home page somewhere for other users to join. I suppose it doesn't matter whether or not the users have the book in their library - they could be reading a physical copy., but Libreture could make the appropriate bookshop to buy the book from nice and clear when the user chooses to join the book club.
