Catherine O'Hara officially joins The Last of Us season 2 in secret role

Moira Rose is heading to the apocalypse.

Moira Rose and an apocalyptic hellscape aren't two things you naturally pair together, but we're now getting a kick out of the image of this displaced socialite shouting for "David!" in front of hordes of the infected.

We have HBO to thank for this daydream. Schitt's Creek Emmy winner Catherine O'Hara has officially joined the cast of The Last of Us season 2 in an undisclosed role, EW has confirmed.

HBO formally announced O'Hara for the Emmy-winning drama on Friday, shortly after the actress confirmed she was in talks for a part during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. For the after-show segment Thursday night, while promoting the new film Argylle with costar with Bryan Cranston, fans asked if there was any truth to rumors of O'Hara appearing on the series.

"How do you know these things?" she responded before confirming that, "yeah," she is in talks.

"My son's a set dresser on the show," O'Hara told host Andy Cohen.

The all-around funny lady from comedy classics like Best in Show and A Mighty Wind had previously been rumored to be up for a newly created part for the HBO series and not a previously established character from the video games.

Reporter Daniel Richtman was the first to report O'Hara's potential involvement.

O'Hara joins Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, and Young Mazino for the show's second season. While Pascal and Ramsey are reprising their roles of Joel and Ellie from season 1, Dever will be playing Abby, a pivotal character from the video games; Merced will be playing Dina, a love interest for Ellie; and Mazino will be playing Jesse, one of Ellie's close friends and Dina's ex-boyfriend.

We love a versatile queen who can swift out of her comedy-legend status to enter a far more action-packed world. This would mark O'Hara's most prominent dramatic role to date, though she has a history with HBO — she played Carol Ward on Six Feet Under in seasons 3 and 5.

Filming on The Last of Us season 2 begins in Canada this month for a planned 2025 premiere on HBO.

Craig Mazin and the game's co-creator, Neil Druckmann, serve as showrunners. Details on how they will adapt the events of 2020's The Last of Us Part II video game are still under wraps, but that story picked up years after Joel and Ellie's tumultuous and traumatic journey across an apocalyptic America. The pair were settled in the Jackson community with Joel's brother Tommy and Tommy's wife, Maria, when a violent event disrupted their peace and compelled Ellie to seek justice.
