Elawan Energy S.L. ("Elawan"), a part of ORIX Group, has entered into an agreement with Spain's leading renewable energy power producer Corporación Acciona Energías Renovables, S.A. to acquire all shares of Acciona Saltos de Agua, S.L.U. ("ASA"), a hydroelectric power producer, including its three subsidiaries. The transaction is expected to close by the end of this year, subject to regulatory approvals. Elawan Energy has engaged Lazard as financial advisor and Cuatrecasas as legal advisor. ASA owns and operates 23 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 175 MW in northern Spain, which has abundant rainfall and water resources in the country. The plants use two different power generation methods: storage type that uses dams or balancing reservoirs (totaling 134 MW across 8 locations) which can regulate water flows, and run-off river type (totaling 41 MW across 15 locations). Storage type hydroelectric power generation, in particular, offers the flexibility to control the amount of power generated by adjusting the timing of water release, and by adjusting the output, it is possible to generate power during times of high demand. All power plants have long term concession agreements with the public authorities to use the water required for hydroelectric power generation, and the generated electricity is sold in the wholesale electricity market, providing a stable business over the medium to long term. “By adding this hydropower portfolio to our existing renewable energy sources, we aim to further stabilize our future power production and build a long-term earnings base,” said Dionisio Fernández, Elawan CEO. ACCIONA Energía CEO Rafael Mateo said “this transaction highlights the quality of our generation portfolio and represents an important milestone in our asset rotation strategy, bringing to light the divergence between public and private market valuations”. Elawan develops and operates solar, wind and mini hydro power plants in 15 countries in Europe, including Spain, as well as North and South America. Happy World Tree Day! 🌳 Today, we celebrate the important role trees play in our lives and renew our promise to support reforestation and conservation projects. At Elawan Energy, we aim to produce clean, renewable energy and promote practices that help our natural environment. At Elawan, we carry out two main types of environmental actions. First, we do forestry treatments to prevent fires and help trees grow better. These treatments involve improving tree masses in several Public Utility Forests owned by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha. We work in these forests to help tree growth and create firebreak strips to make the forests more resistant to fires. Second, we do revegetation work around our projects to help native plants grow. This is done in areas agreed upon with the local administration where habitats are degraded. By doing this, we improve the landscape and biodiversity in those areas. Join us this World Tree Day by planting a tree, taking part in reforestation activities, or simply appreciating the beauty and value of the trees around us. Yesterday at Elawan Energy we had a very special visit to the Bonete Wind Farm, Frontones in Albacete! 🌿💨 The purpose of this visit was to give our new members the opportunity to see firsthand how some of our wind farms operate. We want them to better understand our work and experience the positive impact we are making in the world, beyond the office environment. During the tour our colleagues observed the operation and maintenance of our facilities, learned about the technologies used, and understood the importance of renewable energy for a sustainable future. Elawan Energy will develop 2.0 GW of photovoltaic projects in Italy. We announce the creation of a joint venture with R.Power Renewables to develop 2.0 GW of photovoltaic projects in Italy. The projects in the joint venture's portfolio, all currently in an early development stage, will have a total installed capacity of up to 2.0 GW and are expected to be ready-to-build over the next 6 years, until 2030.
