Random Thoughts on the Train Traveling to State of the Word in NYC

Thanks to Mindsize, PostStatus, GoDaddy and Cloudways for sponsoring this DTW event.

As I was traveling through some of the most barren lands in this country, my thoughts turned to technology and WordPress.

Well, I’m back. BobWP, Do the Woo, heading across the country to State of the Word. And I just had a little thought, I keep having these thoughts and you’re going to hear all these little strange podcasts. That’s what happens when you lock up Bob in a little room on a train all by himself. Yes, I’m still in Montana. It’s still the second day of the trip. I probably could do lots of podcasts here while in Montana. In fact, maybe I will.

But anyway, so again, I talked a little bit earlier about the sponsors. And when you’re going through Northern Montana, it’s just a lot of… I mean, you’re off the grid, basically, even internet wise, which has been a little bit of a challenge, but that’s another story. But you are off the grid and you’re going by, and occasionally you pop in one of these little towns or you see a random house somewhere out in the snow.

The thing that occurred to me was that Matt’s going to be talking about… I’m on this train and I’m, oh, there’s a big tower, some kind of a tower for, maybe it’s internet. Nope, no. I’m looking at my phone right now. That was not an internet tower out here. Anyway, back to State of the Word. One of the odd things I thought about is I’m going to New York City, which has massive amounts of people. And then I’m going to listen to Matt Mullenweg talk about all this amazing technology. What WordPress is doing, and what Gutenberg, and oh. And he’s even going to talk about NFTs and all that stuff, which I’m not really too knowledgeable on. But it’s weird when you hear all this stuff, and then you think about technology moving, how it’s connecting us more and more.

And so many of us live in, whether you live in urban or even small rural areas, you don’t live here, what I’m looking at. And this is, ya, it’s pretty barren. I just guess I have to think of, I’m going all this distance to hear about the latest in technology while I’m… Excuse me, I’m coughing now, and I’m not editing this out, so you’re just going to have to live with that. Oh, I think I’m going by a big lake here. I’m going to just grab my camera real quick. This is, it looks like a big frozen lake. Oh, where’s my camera? I can’t find my camera. Oh, it’s right here. Oh, it went by. Nevermind.

Okay. I was going to try to get this picture I could put on this post. Anyway, I’ll take a picture. Why don’t I take a picture right now? Bear with me. I’m going to take a picture, and you’ll know that this is what I’m doing at this particular time or what I’m seeing. And let’s just do this. Let’s see here. I’m sorry you have to deal with this if you’re going to listen to these podcasts. Now I have to see if this picture turned out. Yeah, it did. Okay. So I will note that, and you will see what I’m looking at as I talk to you about this.

But anyway, my point is, see, I’m rambling and I hope you are all bearing with me because I’m not really planning these. I’m shooting these off the hip. But the fact was that what you see in that picture, if you have seen the picture, I’m traveling through hundreds, if not thousands of miles, and so much of this is exactly this. Whereas, I’m heading to something that is all based around technology, that none of these little critters out here, and I don’t know if there’s any people out here. What their accessibility to the internet is if they were in this area.

But I think that, yeah, it’s just such a contrast. I’m taking this in and then I think where I’m going to be. And that is not really any profound thing around State of the Word, or maybe more profound around the State of the Country or something, the state of the Woo Train, whatever you want to call it, but it is amazing. Yeah, I’m just having those thoughts and thinking, “I’m sitting here doing a podcast as I’m looking at this because I have the technology to do so.” So anyway, just some deep thoughts from BobWP as I wander across the country.
