Did anyone find a solution for this issue or even apple support has no idea what can cause the issue? I have the same issue with both mine and my wife's AirPods Pro 2. It makes noise when you plug it on charge, but you cannot turn it on or off, and you cannot even have sound out of the case when you use find my.

I followed the instructions (listed in grey box, by the Community Specialist, above),

but the "Enable Charging Cable Sounds" was still greyed out....

Then I tried a few extra steps...

I closed the case (with the AirPods Pro in the case),

then I plugged the case into the charging cable...

I waited about 30 seconds,

then opened the charging case,

waited until my phone recognized/connected to my AirPods Pro,

then the "Enable Charging Cable Sounds" became accessible,

and I was able to then turn off the charging cable sounds.

Hopefully these extra steps help others, too.

Hello JoNaitong,

We have some steps to help with your AirPod Pro case sounds being grayed out. The first step that will often resolve issues with AirPods Pro is to reset them. Here are steps: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

1. Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
- If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
- If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.
5. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.
6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

See if you are able to change the setting then and reply back here.

Take care.

As of May, 2024 - This Works!

I followed these extra steps after the standard reset did not remove the greyed out option for those annoying case charging sounds.

Some Notes:

  • On first attempt, Case charging sounds option did not saturate until AFTER I closed the case lid, but only for a moment until the hardware closed me out of that menu.
  • I repeated the extra steps above, and on a second try (while holding one of my airpods slightly out of the case) did the option saturate and I was finally able to access the case sounds option and turn them off.
  • Since initial success, no issues with the option being available going forward. I’m able to access the option with only 1 airpod in use, both pods in use, or both pods in case as long as lid is open.
  • Don't worry if you view the setting at a later time where it’s greyed out and/or On again, give it a second to sync and it should Saturate and return to your previous preference.

Hi, as if May 2024, this worked for me. With AirPods Pro 2s in my ears I activated Siri and asked “ how can I turn off AirPods 2 charging case sounds”. Siri replied by giving me a few websites including this one, and lo and behold! The option to turn off charging case sounds became saturated. Try it and let me know. Was a very frustrating experience resetting the AirPods and still facing the same issue. Looks like Siri knows best! Best of luck!

Unsure if this is the latest thread but posting anyway in case someone finds it helpful as I had to scroll through Macrumors to find a potential fix that did end up working for me:

Charge AirPod case (I did this with both pods in) to 100%. Then re-opened the settings and waited a few minutes (probably a minute) and the option was no longer grayed out. I did forget my decide and reconnect just in case as well.

Same, the option “Enable charging case sounds” was greyed out so i did the following steps:

Then finally when they were connected again y put them in my ears and the option stopped being greyed out, try this!!
