Wayne Brady is opening up about his somewhat unconventional lifestyle in his upcoming reality series Wayne Brady: The Family Remix.
“I’ll freely admit it, it’s weird,” the actor says of the family dynamic — which includes his daughter Maile, his ex-wife and business partner Mandie Taketa, and Taketa’s life partner Jason Michael Fordham — in the new trailer for the Freeform series, embedded above.
Brady also says in the trailer that this whole reality series is a new endeavor for him, because he feels as though he’s never truly let audiences get to know the man behind the on-camera personality. Just one of the pivotal moments teased in the trailer is Brady’s coming out as pansexual.

During a panel for the series at Disney’s Television Critics’ Association event on Wednesday, Brady mused about the idea of finally letting the cameras behind-the-scenes of his life to showcase his true self.
“You could show the world who whoever you want on Instagram or Tiktok…the reality show, it was my weird way of holding myself accountable and making me do [be honest],” he said. “So when I came out, or when we share various things that you will see in the series, I can always just hold my phone on TikTok and be like anybody else. ‘Hey, y’all. Great day. I’m chilling in Malibu.’ And you turn off the camera and start crying. Versus, when the cameras were on, they were really catching what was happening and we couldn’t stop it.”
Brady is also a producer on the series, so, as one reporter aptly pointed out, he could still make some decisions about the final edits of an episode that may be misleading to viewers. However, he insists “we set out with an intention.”
“We said, ‘If we’re going to tell the story, if we’re going to represent this family and people like us, then we have to see the whole way through and let’s see what happens — even if it’s hard.”
